| Men's 3,000-meter steeplechase champion -
Macharia Yuot of Widener University |
How did you prepare for today's meet after winning
last night's 10,000-meter run? "Last night was
a different race and I knew it would be tough. I knew
that in today's race there would be some other runners
with me, so I wouldn't be by myself and that they would
be pushing me all the way. One of the other runners in
the race, Grant Scott from Haverford, he is a good guy
and I know he will push me. So I know going into the race
that myself and Grant will each do are best and push each
other."
How do you feel going into tomorrow's 5,000-meter
run with the opportunity to win three championships at
this meet? "I treat every race like I haven't
done it before, so tomorrow's race is a different situation
for me."

| Men's Decathlon champion - Matt Roberson
of Claremont Mudd Scripps |
How does it feel to finish your career with a national
championship? It feels really good. Last year, I had
some injuries that really held me back. Last year I was
in the same position going into the last event and my
injury held me back. I had the power to do what I knew
I was capable of and it was nice to prove that today.
Did you feel any added pressure coming in as the top
qualifier? No, I really didn't feel any added pressure.
I've had the best score the past couple years so I knew
I was capable of winning this event. This year I was voted
best Field Athlete in Division III so I knew with a well-rounded
competition, I would pull it out. Combined with my family
being here, I had everything I needed to put it all together
and that is what decathlon is all about.

| Women's 3,000-meter steeplechase champion
- Amanda Kuca of Concordia (Wis.) |
How does it feel to set with a championship meet record?
It feels really great. That was one of my goals going
into this meet so I am very happy with my performance.
I just wanted to push my time down and set a new record
and it worked out.
How does it feel to finish your career with a national
championship? It feels really good. Its something
I could have never imagined as a freshmen. God has really
blessed with great coaches and ability and I am really
thankful for that.
Basically dominating the pack, what was the advantage?
I think I just really came in with some confidence. I
give my competitors a lot of credit, but I knew I was
in good shape here and I just wanted to drop my time and
come out with the best time.

| Men's high jump champion - Todd Lowber, Ramapo
College (NJ) |
How does it feel to achieve this in you senior season?
"It feels great to accomplish this. This is the
buildup of a lot of things I have been going through.
This is a great way to culminate things and a great way
to go out."
"This is the only year I
have done track and I don't know what made me come out.
There was just something in my mind that said I should
do this."
What was going through your mind on the last jump
as you attempted a meet record and the entire stadium
was cheering for you? "I was surprised to have
that happen. I have never had that before. I just tried
to give it my best. I don't know what I hit, but obviously
I was disappointed that I didn't get the record."

| Men's hammer throw champion - Ross Kapp of
University of Wisconsin at Whitewater |
How does it feel to go out as a senior and national
champion? "Its unbelievable. Last year at the
nationals in the hammer I really had a poor performance.
All I was looking to do today was make finals. I started
to throw well and kept hitting bigger throws. As a senior,
its so special."
Did you feel like an underdog coming in with the fourth
qualifying time? "I knew I had to throw well
to finish in the top three. I guess I did what I needed
to do to win. It was great competition and I was happy
to come out on top.
Did it feel good to defeat defending national champion
Kevin Becker, from rival school Wis. La-Crosse? Yeah,
it does. He has really handed it to me during conference
and regional meets and its nice to get him one time.

| Women's high jump champion - Christyn Schumann
of Trinity University (Texas) |
What are your feelings on repeating as National Champion
in your senior year? "It feels great to win.
Obviously you always want to win, especially with this
being my senior year I really wanted to do this for my
last time out."
Did you have any special motivation with this being
your last meet? "I think there was a special
motivation, even if you only think about it a little bit.
I got second at the Indoor Championships this year, so
I knew I wanted to go out stronger than that."
Did you feel like there was more pressure on you this
year? "I never really feel a lot of pressure.
My coaches, family and friends are really supportive.
I may have put more pressure on myself, because I was
more nervous today than I have been in the past."

| Women's hammer throw champion - Keelin Godsey
of Bates College |
How do you feel about beating your own championship
meet record? "I'm thrilled. That was a personal
best for me, too. I was really close to that mark last
year and haven't hit it this year so I am very happy with
my performance. It was a great way to end my career with
the hammer."
Do you think this win will give you momentum going
into tomorrow's shot event? "Yeah, I think it
does. I'll feel good going into tomorrow. It's always
a good way to start a meet by doing well in your first
or second event."
Is there a rivalry between you and runner up Robyn
Jarocki? No, I have a tremendous amount of respect
for her. I believe that she pushes me and I push her.
She makes me a better thrower. She is a tremendous competitor.
Did you feel any added pressure coming in as the national
champion? No, I really didn't. My goal for the day
was to have fun and stay relaxed. I actually felt more
relaxed than I ever have in a meet and I think that was
the difference maker.

| Women's Heptathlon champion - Christine Hendricks
of Calvin College |
What are your feelings on ending your senior season
with not only a National Championship, but a meet record?
"I didn't know I was going to set a meet record.
I just had my own goals throughout the season and I am
so happy to have achieved those goals. I wanted to get
5,000 points, I did and it was amazing."
What did you do to prepare this year, after finishing
third at this meet last year? "The third-place
finish last year put me in the mindset that I could do
better. I finished ninth my sophomore year, I finished
third last year and that was really great. I was very
happy with third place, but I knew that I could build
off of that."

| |
| Men's pole vault champion - Matt Novak of
University at Wisconsin-LaCrosse |
You placed third last year, what does this national
championship mean? "The national championship
was the plan, but we also wanted to jump high as a team
too. We really want to win another team championship here."
What does another team title mean to your program?
"We want to win as many team titles as possible.
We want to set the record for the most wins by any program.
Its all about your teammates and I would really call this
team a family."
You've won a national title as a junior, what are
you expectations for next year? "I expect to
jump higher. How high, we will find out, but I want to
jump higher. I was happy with today because I got some
good attempts on a bigger pole, but I want to come back
strong next year."
