Men's Pole Vault
Matt Novak of UW-LaCrosse dominated the field on his way
to the championship in the men's pole vault, and he nearly
had an NCAA Championship record by clearing a height of
16'11" to top a field of 17 entrants. Kevin Clark of
Elizabethtown finished as the runner-up, nearly eight inches
behind Novak by clearing 16'3 ¼". UW-LaCrosse
also placed Alex Tapplin third (15'11 ¼"). Four
other athletes equaled that height, but only Derek Zulkowski
had the same number of misses as Taplin to tie for third.
Jonny Henkins of Monmouth came home fifth, while Zach Johnson
(UW-Oshkosh) and Michael Bina (North Central) were sixth
and seventh, rectively. Rounding out the All-Americans was
Richard Stockton's Jake Owens.
Women's Hammer Throw

Keelin Godsey of Bates College set an NCAA Division III
Championship record with a throw of 203'6" to claim
the title in the women's hammer throw. Godsey bettered her
mark which won last year's title and topped the field by
over 20 feet. Robyn Jarocki of UW-Oshkosh was the runner-up
(191'10") followed by teammate Danielle Rankin (176'6").
Felicia Tsai of Rensselaer Poly Institute placed fourth
(175'7") and another Oshkosh thrower placed fifth (Rebecca
Masephol -169'). The other All-Americans were Simpson's
Caroline Capper (168'5"), Rochester Institute of Technology's
Allison Griggs (167'9"), and Lindsey Blankenship of
George Fox (164'3").
Women's High Jump
Trinity's Christyn Schumann won the women's high jump with
a season best mark of 5'9 ¾" which bettered
her winning mark from 2005. Kristin Moss of Williams and
Jennifer Harlow of Wheaton (Mass.) tied for second, each
clearing 5'7" in the same amount of attempts. Kapricia
Poulos of Millikin was the first of two freshmen to earn
All-America honors, placing fourth (5'7"). Megan Mason
from St. Mary's was fifth (5'7"). The other All-Americans
were Alanna Pledger of Willamette, Amanda Haney of SUNY-Geneseo,
and Sara McGinnis of Ohio Northern who all tied for sixth
at 5'5 ¾".
Women's Heptathlon
Calvin's Christine Hendricks set a new NCAA Division III
Championship record by winning the heptathlon with 5,012
points. Hendricks bettered the previous mark of 4,943 set
by Central College's Raegan Schultz. Hendricks was in second
after the first day of competition, but won the first event
Friday, the long jump to grab the lead and never looked
back. Brooke Barker of Pacific (Oregon) came in second with
4,834 points. Barker won the javelin on the second day.
Day one leader Lindsay Lange from Hope placed third with
4,790 points. Christina Acquaviva from SUNY-Cortland placed
fourth (4,777). Amy Reed of Messiah used two second place
finishes to place a close fifth (4,776). Emily Pankow from
Luther was sixth (4,686), Dana Wilkerson of Central (4,646)
came in seventh, and Wheaton (Illinois) senior Audrey Booth
capped her career by placing eighth (4,626).
Men's 110 Meter Hurdles prelims
UW-LaCrosse continued its second day success by landing
the top qualifier for the 110 meter hurdle finals. Junior
Marcus Walgrave will pace the field in Saturday's finals
after finishing in 14.29.
Women's 100 Meter Hurdles prelims
Defending champion Sheana Grigsby of Carthage posted the
top time in the 100 meter hurdles in her attempt at a repeat.
Grigsby ran 14.15 seconds, setting a stadium record in besting
Denay Caldwell of New Jersey City (14.49).
Women's 400 Meter Dash prelims
Illinois Wesleyan's Rachel Anderson posted the fastest time
of the year in Division III to qualify first for the finals
of the 400 meter dash. Anderson's time of 54.82 topped SUNY-Oneonta's
Ashlee Robertson's time of 55.49.
Men's 400 Meter Dash prelims
Three UW-LaCrosse athletes will be in the finals of the
400 meters as the Eagles occupy two of the top three slots
for Saturday's final. Nate Olson ran 46.99 to lead the field
while teammate Jeremy Deterville was third with a 47.23
mark.
Women's 100 Meter Dash prelims
Shandra Jackson of Lincoln University will lead the women's
100 meter dash finals on Saturday. Jackson posted a time
of 11.84 in the prelims Friday and was one of only two individuals
to be under 12 seconds. UW-Lacrosse's Jena Durnin (11.99)
was the other.
Men's 100 Meter Dash prelims
Greg Nixon of Howard Payne ran a preliminary time of 10.64
to garner the top slot in Saturday's finals of the 100 meter
dash. Bert Green of McMurry University qualified second
as one of two freshmen to make the finals (10.70).
Men's High Jump
Ramapo College's Todd Lowber said in his post-championship
news conference that he had a good feeling about the high
jump. He was right. Lowber played basketball and had never
jumped before this season. Lowber claimed the national title
and was jumping for the meet record after clearing 7'0 ½".
Paul Klemic of Richard Stockton was the runner-up after
clearing 6'10 ¼". Loras' Andy Stoecken, the
indoor champion, placed third with a height of 6'9".
Augustana's Ted McMillan and Calvin's Mike Buist, both freshmen,
tied for fourth also at 6'9". Chris Hickox from Mississippi
College, also a freshman placed sixth with the same mark.
Eric Belancic (Mount Union) and Bruce Cotton (Wilmington
College) tied for seventh with a mark of 6'7 ¾".
Belancic was the fourth freshman of the event to earn All-America
status.
Men's Hammer Throw
Ross Kapp, a senior at UW-Whitewater, won the men's hammer
throw with a toss of 198'11". Uzoma Orji of MIT finished
second (198'4").UW-Whitewater also placed Joe Busalacchi
third. Busalacchi threw 193'0. Colby's Jason Foster was
fourth (186'8") followed by Brandon Houle of UW-Oshkosh
(184'8"). The other All-Americans in the field were
Dwayne Lockridge of Anderson (184'1"), Dan Austin of
Williams (179'5"), and Jacob Courrier of Hamline (179'1").
Women's 800 Meter Run
North Central's Amber Druien, who had the top time entering
the meet, will lead the field in the finals of the women's
800 meters after running 2:11.62 in Friday's preliminaries.
The only other individual under 2:12 was Wartburg's Heidi
Porter who ran 2:11.65.
Men's 800 Meter Run prelims
The College of New Jersey's Jeff Zodda posted a time of
1:50.69 just edging Elizabethtown's Nick Stenuf (1:50.73)
for the top slot in Saturday's final. Defending champion
Nick Symmonds of Willamette qualified fourth.
Women's 3000 Meter Steeplechase
Amanda Kuca of Concordia (Wisconsin) set an NCAA Division
III Championship record in winning the steeplechase Friday
evening. Kuca's time of 10:15.72 topped the old record by
over 10 seconds. Second place Ellie Fernandez (John Carroll)
also bettered the previous record, finishing with a time
of 10:23.95. UW-LaCrosse's Julia Rudd was third (10:33.22)
followed by 2005 champion Shauneen Garrahan of Amherst (10:43.85).
The other All-Americans were Kim Sonne (Claremont Mudd-Scripps)
who took fifth in 10:46.48, Illinois Wesleyan's Melinda
Sprague (10:46.56), Becca Ades of Tufts (10:47.64), and
Kathryn Moore of Bates (10:49.46).
Men's 3000 Meter Steeplechase
Senior Macharia Yuot from Widener University claimed the
steeplechase championship Friday afternoon, winning in 9:03.88,
the top time in Division III this season. The top three
finishers, which included Grant Scott (Haverford -9:04.77)
and Nick Johnson (Augustana-9:06.29) all bested the top
time in Division III this season. Wartburg's Tim McKenna,
the only freshman in the field, placed fourth (9:07.55).
UW-LaCrosse's Mike Herlihy took fifth (9:10.11), Craig Dye
of Nebraska Wesleyan was sixth (9:11.03), while Travis Bristow
of Hamline claimed seventh (9:11.15). Teage O'Connor of
the University of Chicago rounded out the All-Americans
(9:11.27).
Men's Decathlon
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Matt Roberson won three events to
claim the title in the decathlon. Roberson's total of 7,188
topped second place Fritz Nugent (Redlands) by over 100
points. Middlebury's Khristoph Becker was third with 6,996
points after winning two events. Adam Lendowski of UW-Whitewater
also won two events and placed fourth (6,795). Seth Harris
from George Fox was fifth (6,743) while Zane Buckingham
of St. Lawrence placed sixth after taking first in one event.
George Fox athletes occupied the final two slots as Josh
Priester took seventh and Ryan Forbes eighth.
