KIMYENNA ABRON

Track & Field
Women's Soccer

Kimyenna has not only established herself as an outstanding athlete for the Eagles' program, but also as a very involved student around campus. Last March, Kimyenna became the first-ever female sprinter in the history of Benedictine University track and field to qualify for the NCAA Division III championships when she earned a berth at the indoor meet in the 55 meter dash.

The amazing part of Kimyenna's story is that - prior to this her senior year - she had never even participated in collegiate track! During the winter indoor season, in addition to qualifying for nationals, she also set school records in the 55 meters, 200 meters and 400 meters (actually re-setting the records several times!). She won the 2008 Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) indoor championship - setting league records - in both the 55 and 200 meter races, and anchored the Eagles' runner-up 4x400 relay quartet.

Within the first two weeks of the 2008 outdoor season, Kimyenna has already run strong provisional qualifying times for both the 100 and 200 meter events, establishing new Benedictine records in both, as well!

Prior to even setting foot on Benedictine's beautiful nine-lane track in The Sports Complex, Abron spent three seasons playing women's soccer for the Eagles. She was voted All-NAC second team in 2007 and honorable mention in 2006. She was recognized as one of - if not the - fastest players in the conference.

As fast is Kimyenna is on the track and on the soccer field- and make no mistake about it, she IS fast - she is that much more involved in various activities and events on the Benedictine campus. Perhaps her great speed helps her get from one place to the next considering her full slate of activities! The former Hyde Park High School standout is Benedictine's African-American Student Union president, is a member of the gospel choir (serving as the group's vice president) and is on the funding review board. When she's not spending her time with on-campus activities, Kimyenna also makes sure to volunteer some time at her home church.

Kimyenna is looking twards a career as in clinical psychology. She is a psychology major, with a minor in criminal justice.
