Duties:
The Department of Political Science at Benedictine University invites applications for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor in American Politics. Earned doctorate in Political Science with emphasis in American government from an accredited university/college is required. We are particularly interested in candidates with a focus on U.S. political institutions and an ability to teach courses in the following areas: the presidency, Congress, campaigns and parties, American political development, and research methods. Promise of excellence in teaching and scholarly activity in the context of a liberal arts college is essential. This position also works closely with our Center for Civic Leadership and Public Service, founded and directed by former Illinois Attorney General Jim Ryan, which seeks to promote civic engagement across our student population through a variety of programs and opportunities. Benedictine is a Catholic university in the Benedictine tradition, and is 25 miles west of Chicago.

Qualifications:
MUST HAVE PERMANENT LEGAL AUTHORIZATION TO WORK IN THE U.S.A.

Application Process:
The Political Science Department is housed within the College of Liberal Arts. Minority and women candidates are encouraged to apply. Review of applications will begin August 30, 2009 and continue until the position is filled. Department faculty will be conducting screening interviews at the APSA Annual Meeting in September. Candidates for the position should submit a curriculum vitae, a description of current and future research interests and teaching philosophy, evidence of teaching success, one writing sample not to exceed 30 pages, graduate transcripts, and three current letters of recommendation to: Ms. Sharon Jones, Department of Political Science, 5700 College Rd., Benedictine University, Lisle, IL 60532.
