Students can take advantage of a series of study skills workshops conducted each semester. Workshops cover a variety of important topics, such as:

 

  • Understanding your course syllabi - Learn how to use your syllabus to set priorities, manage time, track performance and improve your academic performance. 
  • Identifying and using your personal learning style - Your personal learning style can impact the way you study and learn. Discover your learning style and specific strategies for using your learning preferences in the classroom and at home. 
  • Effective time management strategies - Learn strategies for organizing your schedule and maximizing your time.
  • Strategies for effective textbook reading - Textbooks are required for a reason. Get the most out of the books that cost you so much by discovering the SQ3R method. 
  • Test-taking strategies for better results - Subjective, objective, multiple choice or essay –learn more about the different strategies you can use to manage test anxiety and improve test scores. 
  • Examining work values and exploring career options - Whether you’re contemplating changing a major or already committed to a career path, making connections with career professionals will help you focus on long-term goals based on your personal values. 
  • Managing stress - Don’t let mid-semester stress overwhelm you. Learn strategies for managing pressure, including some techniques you can use in the classroom. 
  • Using Bloom’s Taxonomy - Use Bloom’s Taxonomy as an effective approach to thinking, learning and the writing process.
  • Writing assistance resources at BenU - Learn about the resources available to students and how to best utilize them. An in-class activity provides insight into the importance of good writing skills and their relationship to each major. 
  • Tracking performance and understanding GPA -Your academic performance should not be a surprise to you. Identify ways to track course grades and calculate real and potential GPA.
