Nutrition Programs

Benedictine University offers five nutrition options:

  • Didactic Program in Dietetics (Nutrition Major)
  • Master of Science (MS) in Nutrition and Wellness
  • MS/Dietetic Internship
  • MS in Nutrition and Wellness online
  • MS/MPH Dual Degree

The undergraduate Nutrition major program, known as the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD), leads to a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition. Students completing this degree program are eligible to apply for acceptance into Dietetic Internship programs. Through affiliations with our own graduate programs, the undergraduate Nutrition major offers the student the possibility of obtaining the Bachelor of Science degree in four years of full-time study plus a Master degree in about one additional year. The undergraduate nutrition program is affiliated with the following Benedictine University master degree programs: Master of Science in Nutrition and Wellness, Master of Public Health, and Master of Science in Clinical Exercise Physiology programs.

The Master of Science (MS) in Nutrition and Wellness program prepares students to become vital ingredients in community-based nutrition and wellness programs. This program is unique in that it is a life science-based health promotion program. The program provides the opportunity for students to select a concentration in Nutrition (Sports Nutrition or Dietetic Internship) or from the complementary field of Health Education. This is the only program in the country to offer a combined MS in Nutrition and Wellness/Dietetic Internship program. Successful completion of the combined MS/Dietetic Internship program qualifies one to sit for the registration examination to become a Registered Dietitian.

Benedictine University offers a high quality, fully online M.S. in Nutrition and Wellness program with Health Education concentration. A Dual Degree option combining the MS in Nutrition and Wellness with the Master of Public Health (MPH) is also available offered in the traditional classroom format or fully online.

Accreditation of Nutrition Programs

Our undergraduate Didactic Program in Dietetics and graduate combined MS/Dietetic Internship program are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education of The American Dietetic Association (120 South Riverside Plaza, Suite 2000, Chicago, Illinois 60606-6995, 312/899-0040).
