Professional Background:
My
parents are originally from San Luis Potosi, Mexico. They came to the United
States around 1958. My father worked two full-time jobs and my mother worked
even harder as a full-time mother and homemaker. I was born in Chicago and grew
up in a small neighborhood known as Pilsen. Pilsen is known for having a large Hispanic population.
I went on to earn a Bachelors Degree in Marketing
from Columbia College Chicago in 1990. I also earned a Masters
in Business Administration (MBA) from Aurora University in 2000. While earning
my MBA and working full time in Human Resources, I dedicated part of my time to
teaching English as a Second Language at Waubonsee
Community College. I have also been teaching graduate level classes at
Benedictine University. Some of the classes I have taught are Business Ethics,
Conflict Management and Organization Behavior. With over fourteen years of
experience in Human Resources, employee benefits, and employment law and
recruiting. I currently hold a position as Director of Human Resources. I have
also served on the Human Relations Commission for the City of Aurora, Aurora Library
Broad and Waubonsee Community College Foundation. I
have written articles for "El Conquistador "regarding employment
issues. On August 1, 2003, I was appointed as an Aurora Township Trustee, the
first Hispanic Republican to hold that office in Aurora. In 2005 I was
appointed and currently serve as a Commissioner for the Illinois Liquor Control
Commission. I'm the first Hispanic Republican to hold that state wide office
also.
