Degree Level/Concentration: Master of Art in Teaching-Certified Learning/Behavioral Specialist
Stephanie Thomas, a second career educator, is a Chicago land native. She is a graduate Whitney M. Young Magnet High School and earned Bachelors in Business Administrative-majoring in Public Accounting from Loyola University. She spent the majority of her business career as a Certified Public Accountant for McDonalds Corporation in Oak Brook IL. Her she gained valuable business experience and was promoted through the ranks, starting as a staff accountant and retiring as an Accounting Team Manager in the Real Estate Systems Department. Although she had great success and enjoyed the challenges and competitive excitement of the business world, she eventually chose to pursue a career in her first love, teaching.
Her teaching experience started as a
substitute teacher in Berkeley School District 87. After completing a 3 month
assignment in a 3rd/4th grade Special Needs classroom, she decided that
teaching students with learning and behavioral challenges would be her goal.
She started classes at National Louis University and earned a Masters of Art in
Education. She is also a certified Learning/Behavioral Specialist for the State
of Illinois. Over the past 10 years she has taught at all ages from 5-21. She
is currently lead High School at Hillside Academy, an
alternative High School for students with special needs.
Stephanie enjoys reading, bowling and traveling. She currently resides in River Forest IL with her 3 children.
All students are capable of achieving success in learning. The key is to meet the student where they are academically, teach to their learning style, and give them learning success by building on their current knowledge. Never assume what a student knows. By getting to know your students you have the opportunity to help them reach their learning goals.
