Frequently Asked Questions

Q—When is the application deadline?
A—Benedictine University has a rolling admission. You can apply at any time.

Q—What is the minimum cumulative grade point average for admission?
A—The minimum is a 2.0/4.0 (without previous probation or dismissal) for automatic admission.

Q—How many hours do I need to transfer to Benedictine?
A—The number of hours you need to transfer to Benedictine depends on the program of study you select. Please speak to an Admissions Counselor for more information.

Q—What if I have never attended a college or university?
A—We will need to see official high school transcripts or GED scores. You may also be required to submit ACT or SAT scores.

Q—How many of my hours will transfer to Benedictine?
A—We are IAI compliant, therefore any IAI course will transfer to Benedictine. There is no maximum and credits will be examined on a course by course basis.

Q—How many hours must I take at Benedictine if I transfer into the adult accelerated program?
A—You need 120 hours to earn a bachelor’s degree; 55 of those hours need to be completed at a four year college or university. Other graduation requirements will be determined on an individual basis.

Q—Can I have an unofficial evaluation done of my previous credits?
A—Yes. Just schedule an appointment with one of our Admissions Counselors.

Q—Is there an age requirement for the adult undergraduate program?
A—The adult undergraduate program is designed for the adult learner, therefore we look for students to be a minimum of 22 years old and have two years work experience. If you don’t meet these requirements please speak with an Admissions Counselor who will be able to provide you with more detailed information about how to proceed.

Q—Does Benedictine offer any help for students who require academic assistance outside of the classroom?
A—Yes. The Student Success Center, located in the Krasa Student Center, offers programs and services in mathematics, writing, college reading, study skills and time management, among others.

Q—What is considered full time and part time?
A—12-to-18 hours per semester is considered full time, anything less than 12 semester hours is considered part time.

Q—How long will it take me to earn my degree?
A—The length of the program depends on the amount of your transferable credit and on the number of classes you are required to take for degree completion.

Q—When can I start classes?
A—An adult undergraduate student can start at the beginning of the fall, spring or summer term. Contact an Admissions Counselor for further information.

Q–What is Weekend College?
A–Weekend College offers accelerated degree programs available entirely on the weekend (every other weekend, Saturday and Sunday). The programs are based on a traditional curriculum that has been refashioned to fit the needs and schedules of today’s working adults. It is designed for those who have transfer credits from other colleges or for students who are just beginning their college education. Students who earn a degree through Weekend College receive the same outstanding quality instruction as traditional students and are certified as possessing the same skills as
graduates of traditional programs.

Weekend College courses are delivered in an accelerated format with most courses offered on a five-week basis. They are designed for highly motivated, well-prepared students who need an alternative to semester-length classes and who are looking for high-quality, rigorous instruction with ample opportunity to meet and learn from professors in person.

Q–What is a learning team?
A–Students are admitted to a learning team that progresses through the program as a community rather than as individuals. The sense of community with peers, professors and college personnel intensifies as students move forward in the program. As each learning team moves through the program, students develop powerful relationships which become a support network as they earn their degree together.
