Nuclear Medical Technology Program
As a nuclear medicine technology major you will complete your first three years
of coursework at Benedictine University. Students should meet all graduation
requirements during these three years, while maintaining a grade point average
of 2.7 or above. In your junior year, you must apply to Hines Veterans Administrations
Hospital and/or Northwestern Memorial Hospital for your clinical education.
The admissions process is very competitive. During your senior year, you will
complete a 12-month, 34-semester-hour clinical education program at Hines VA
and/or Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Upon completing the curriculum, you will
be awarded a certificate of qualification as a nuclear medical technologist.
You will be eligible to take certifying examinations administered by the Nuclear
Medicine Technology Certification Board, the American Registry of Radiologic
Technologists and the Board of Registry of the American Society of Clinical
Pathologists.
Radiation Therapy Program
Students in the radiation therapy program must complete 90 semester hours with
a minimum grade point average of 2.7 at Benedictine University. Students must
apply for admission to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Benedictine's clinical
education affiliate hospital, during their junior year. The admissions process
is very competitive. Your senior year is a 12-month, 33 semester hour clinical
education curriculum in an American Medical Association accredited hospital
program affiliated with the University. Upon completion of the bachelor of science
program, the student is eligible to sit for the national registry examination
in radiation therapy, administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
Joint Engineering Program with the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT)
Students in this program will earn a bachelor of science or bachelor of arts
degree from Benedictine University and a bachelor of science degree in engineering
form IIT. Once you apply to Benedictine and are accepted into the Benedictine/IIT
engineering program, as well as maintain an appropriate grade point average,
you are automatically accepted into IIT. In the beginning, classes are taken
exclusively at Benedictine University completing a sequence of courses including
the engineering core plus elective courses in social science and humanities.
By the fifth semester, students will take courses at both institutions. The
last four semesters will be held primarily at the IIT campus. Students may select
from the following engineering fields: aerospace, civil, mechanical, computer,
electrical, environmental, chemical and architectural.
