Frequently Asked Questions

Q—What if I have already taken a graduate entrance exam years ago?
A—Benedictine will accept test scores up to five years old.

Q—What if I am not from the United States?
A—If you are not a U.S. citizen we would like you to speak with the Director of International Programs. Any student who has taken classes overseas will need their transcripts translated by the Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE), an accredited foreign educational credentials evaluating company. ECE can be reached at www.ece.org and forms are available in the Enrollment Center. For specific evaluation report please contact the Enrollment Center.

Q—How do I apply? Where do I turn in my application?
A—You may submit an application via fax, mail or online by visiting our Web site www.ben.edu and looking under Admissions. Please submit your application to the Enrollment Center located in Lownik Hall.

Q—When is my application due?
A—Benedictine has a rolling admissions policy. We accept applications throughout the year for all of our graduate programs. We encourage you to apply a minimum of six to eight weeks prior to the start of a new quarter or semester to allow enough time for your application to be reviewed by the department and for an admissions decision to be made.

Q—Do I really need to submit all of my official transcripts?
A—Yes, Benedictine needs official transcripts from all colleges/universities previously attended so we can evaluate your entire academic history. This is a University policy. Each transcript is considered a piece of your academic record. Remember an official transcript bears the institution’s seal and is sent directly from one institution to another.

Q—What is the role of the Enrollment Center?
A—The Enrollment Center is here to serve students who are in the admissions process. We can answer questions about the Benedictine community, format offerings, program options, program requirements, start dates, application questions, updates on the status of your file, housing and financing options. We will also put you in touch with key departmental contacts who will provide you with answers to your specific questions about the program and provide you with advising and registration throughout the length of your graduate program.

Q—When can I start taking classes?
A—If you have not yet applied to a degree program, you have the option of taking courses at the beginning of a quarter or semester as a student-at-large. You can register for classes at Benedictine Central without any formal admission process. However, you must consult with the academic department of your intended major since this could affect transferability of courses, should you decide to apply to a degree program at a later time.

Q—Are there any support services available to graduate students?
A—Yes, students can utilize any of the many services available in the Academic Resource Center located in Kindlon Hall. Some students may also be interested in the resources provided by Career Development, such as a full career library of resources, numerous handouts for creating cover letters and resumes, information on job search Internet sites, interviewing strategies and job fair information.

Q—How do I get my student ID number?
A—You can obtain your student ID number by calling Benedictine Central at (630) 829-6500.

Q—What if I want to enroll in two programs?
A—Students must apply to both programs and admission for each program will be determined separately. Students may choose from a variety of dual degrees:
• Master of Business Administration/M.S. in Management Information Systems
• Master of Business Administration/M.S. in Management and Organizational Behavior
• M.S. in Management Information Systems/M.S. in Management and Organizational Behavior
• Master of Public Health/Master of Business Administration
• Master of Public Health/M.S. in Management Information Systems
• Master of Science in Nutrition and Wellness/Master of Public Health

Q—How long will it take me to earn my degree?
A—The length of the program depends on the number of courses and credits you take in each term and the type of program you select. Each program has its own graduation requirements.

Q—Why should I attend Benedictine University?
A—Benedictine faculty want to interact with students. They bring practical experience as well as expertise into classroom discussions and teach using a variety of methods and tools. Benedictine is conveniently located in Lisle, Illinois near I-88, I-355 and the Metra Station. We also help students by offering financial aid and providing career and job search assistance.

Q—Does Benedictine University accept employer reimbursement?
A—Students are eligible to defer their tuition to the end of the term. Students need to forward a copy of their company’s employer reimbursement policy or a letter on company letterhead from the employer stating that tuition is covered to the Student Accounts Office [fax (630) 829-6501]. Each term the student wishes to defer tuition they will be charged a fee. Every fall term the student must resubmit the employee reimbursement policy.

Q—How do I register for classes? Where?
A—After speaking with your advisor, you can fax your registration to Benedictine Central at (630) 829-6456, e-mail bencentral@ben.edu, mail or call in your registration to (630) 829-6500.

Q—What should I do if I want to switch programs after I am enrolled?
A—Students who wish to switch from one graduate program to another will need to submit a new application and new letters of recommendation. Other documents/requirements may be necessary depending on the program into which you wish to change.

Q—How many credit hours are considered full time or part time?
A—Part-time status for financial aid purposes is four credit hours per term. Part-time status for academic purposes is five credit hours per term. (The eligibility for an in-school deferment (deferral of previous loans) is based on the academic definition of part-time). Full-time status for financial aid purposes is eight credit hours per term. Full-time status for academic purposes is nine credit hours per term.
