William J. Tonne, D.D.S.
BS Biology 1968

Given to alumni that serves and has served the university with their time and talent, the 2008 Alumni Service Award goes to Dr. William Tonne.

Bill has been an active alumnus almost from the moment he graduated in 1968. Upon his completion of his DDS from University of Illinois Dental School, Bill became very active in many professional organizations including the US Grant District Dental Society, the Illinois State Dental Society, the American Dental Association, and the Chicago Dental Society. He also has been a faculty member at the University of Illinois Dental School and consults at a local nursing home where he donates his services along with clients at the Department of Human Services.

He is also very active with community organizations including the Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, Knights of Columbus, Jo Daviess County Board of health and the village board.

While a student here, Bill was vice president of his freshmen class, president sophomore class, homecoming chairman, student government academic committee, played baseball and hockey. He has continued donating his time by organizing all his class reunions, purchases use of the Sports Complex Skybox each year at Homecoming, attends and supports the annual golf outing and Educare Ball.

Bill lives in Hanover, Illinois with his wife Peggy and has practiced dentistry in Savanna Illinois for 35 ½ years. They have two children, Karen Greiner and Lara Walters and 5 grandchildren.
