Benedictine Service Award
William J. Carroll
BA Political Science 1973 M.B.A. 1980

Given to alumni that serve and have served the University with their time and talent, the 2009 Alumni Service Award goes to William (Bill) Carroll.

Bill exemplifies the Benedictine value of service everyday and has from the moment of graduation when he received the Procopian of the Year Service Award in 1973. In 1988 he joined the Alumni Association Board and was an active member until 2008 serving as president from 1991-1993. He has supported the University's fundraising efforts through athletics, various capital campaigns and building projects.

Bill's other service achievements include Southwest Regional Board Chair for Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago since 2003 and he's been a member since 2001. He has coordinated hot suppers every week, food pantry, nutrition program and health fair, and early childhood development and fundraising activities at St. Blasé. He is a recipient of the Vicariate V Bishop Quarter Award in 2005, volunteer at St. Francis of Assisi parish in Orland Park, member of the Kiwanis Club in Blue Island and a member of the board of directors for the Blue Island Chamber of Commerce. He has also participated in numerous volunteer and fundraising activities at Marist and Mother McAuley High Schools and St. Walter's and St. Adrian's Churches. He was also a volunteer firefighter for Blue Island.

Owner of Blue Island Travel, deemed the "official travel agent" of Benedictine University, and C & H Development Company, Bill is married to Ann Norton Carroll, C74 and has two children, John, C03 and Caitlin.

Father Upton, pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Church said, "Bill helped set a model of how parishes can connect with Catholic Charities. He is dedicated to church, hard work in the parish and has a style that encourages others to participate. He is a wonderful example of a dedicated Catholic layman."
