Raymond Adams

Ray and his wife, Rosemary, have three children: Gabie, who received her BA and Masters from University of San Diego; Jennifer, who received her BA from MSU and her JD Law from Duke; and Suzanna, who completed her BS at Notre Dame and her PhD from Southern Cal. Ray especially enjoys the beach, which is only three blocks from his home! He also enjoys some travel and is very active in his parish. He shares that once a major interest, he has now become very jaded about politics. He has spent considerable time studying theology and religion.

He spent from 1962-1965 in the US Navy as an officer. He describes the period between 1965 - 1991 as a rewarding, itinerant, rather prosaic career with Atlantic Richfield. He owned a construction company (Roads & Bridges) with his brothers-in-law in Mississippi from 1991 - 1994. Presently, he has a minor small business in Mississippi but is mostly retired.

While at SPC he was active in academics - of course! He also was a dishwasher, in student government, and the basketball team earning a couple of letters. His favorite memories are of all aspects of college life at Proco. He only wishes it had gone co-ed sooner!

Ray's message to the class: "A tragic loss to our class was the sudden death of my twin brother, Robert Adams, in the fall of 1977. He is still missed. I am happy to report, however, that his wife, Susan, one of the world's truly wonderful persons, has done a super job of raising their family, and that their three children, Beth, Michael and Mark Adams are great!"

Jim Beaupre

Spouse: Debbie

Post Proco Education: PhD physics, Iowa State University

Highlights: After graduating from Iowa State with a PhD in physics, Jim worked for a number of years supporting various defense contractors. He is perhaps best known for designing the most expensive port-a-pottie ever, suitable for all terrestial and most near-space environments. It also features the patented Poop-To-Goop feature which transforms solid waste into petroleum products. His most recent employer was a large concern with roots in the energy sector specializing in open-ended sole source service contracts with the government. After being identified at a John Kerry rally, he was laid-off, labeled as an enemy non-combatant, and taken on a mandatory vacation to an undisclosed 3rd world country. There he received free room and board, an honorary lobotomy and an implant. He was recently returned to the 1st world, and, as a recent "rendee", he got a job as a stunt double for the interrogatee on "24". When he is not fulfilling directives from his implant, he sits in a corner pointing at his own excrement saying, "oil, oil".

Been Doing: Painting pictures, exercising, trying to remember

Memories: Fr. Willie,
Wistfully, a lack of petroleum products

John Nikolai

Greetings!

I still have the St. Procopius mug purchased as a freshman at Proco, although I only stayed two years and transferred in the fall of 1960 to the University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana. Most of the monks and professors are gone now, but I cut a lot of classes and played lots of pinochle with my fellow classmates. What really woke me up was the test by the new chemistry instructor Frigerio from Argonne in the survey course with a top grade of 28. As luck would have it he realized that the material wasn’t sinking in and graded the quiz on a curve.

I enlisted in the Air Force in 1961 and spent 4 years split evenly in Texas, Montana and West Pakistan as a refrigeration and air conditioning mechanic. It became quite clear that I should finish my education so I took courses wherever I could and finished a BS in Business at Drake University in 1966. I met Mary Fran at the Newman Center and we married in 1967 and have three sons. Tim our oldest son works as an engineer technician for STS Consultants as well as a construction manager on Canadian National railroad projects and lives in Aurora, IL. Ken just finished two hitches in the Army and works for a military contractor in Lakewood, WA. Patrick is married to Brenda and has a degree in community recreation from Southern IL U. at Carbondale and works for the Park Department at the City of Richmond, CA.

Personally, I still consult in bulk commodities marketing docks on the Great Lakes and inland waterways after spending part of my career distributing 3 million tons of salt annually from a mine at Cote Blanch, Louisiana and a mine at Goderich, Ontario. Prior to that employment I worked my way through a scrap organization running a non-ferrous warehouse in Davenport, IA and later a scrap yard and barge terminal in LaCrosse, WI.

Mary Fran and I are currently semi-retired in Elkader, IA active in the Chamber of Commerce, Elkader Development Corp. Inc. and St. Joseph’s Parish and offer hospitality and riding instruction at Goshawk Farm Bed & Breakfast and Equestrian Center www.goshawkfarm.com. We had an acreage on Wherli Road in Naperville not far from Benedictine University from 1986 - 1997 and Mary Fran built her equestrian business and still teaches horseback riding in the western suburbs and Northwest Indiana each month.
