 Donna Hrozencik

Class of 1982 Class Leader

Donna S. Hrozencik, M.D.

B.S. Biochemistry, C 82, Cum Laude

Hrozencik attended Benedictine originally planning on pursuing a career in medical research and once here was very impressed that a major in Biochemistry was offered. Upon admission to Benedictine, Hrozencik was fortunate enough to be awarded scholarship funds to attend and thus pursued her degree and going on to medical school. While here, she was a teachers' assistant in General, Organic and Nursing Chemistry. She was active in the American Chemical Society and a member of the Tri Beta Biology Society. Donna was a resident assistant in Ondrak and Kohlbeck Halls and received the Senior Service Award in 1982. She went on to Rush University Medical School in Chicago earning her M.D. in 1986, completed her residency in OB/GYN at the University of Michigan, is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and a Fellow in the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

On staff at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan, she has been an active member of the teaching faculty to both students and residents, lecturing frequently and mentoring both. She received the Attending Physician Teaching Award twice from students and one from the department chairman. She also has served as the medical director of Canton Obstetrics and Gynecology in Canton, Michigan.

"Benedictine University not only gave me the educational background to achieve my ultimate goals, but also gave me wonderful lifelong friends and an understanding of my faith. To this, I will be forever grateful and I know it is a debt which could never be repaid," stated Hrozencik. "There is no substitute for small classroom size and being taught only by professors. The personal interest the professors and administration at Benedictine provided to me helped to achieve my goal of being accepted into medical school and will help any student achieve their ultimate career path."  In 2005, Hrozencik was given the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Alumni Association for her outstanding achievements as a physician.

Donna lives in Ann Arbor Michigan with her husband, Mark Ouimet.
