About The China Institute

As Benedictine University prepared itself for the journey called the 21st century, what became very clear was that globalization will mark this journey. With this understanding, a question quickly developed as to how a medium sized university in the Midwest could wrap its arms around the world and do a good job? The answer—it could not. There are not sufficient resources for a single institution to be all things to all people. Accordingly, the University decided to focus on a single country and put all its globalization resources into a single enterprise; hence, The China Institute was born.

The China Institute seeks to advance relations between China and the United States through a unique partnership between education and business to make transparent the political, economic, cultural, business and ideological forces that shape our relations.

To realize this mission and to maximize the usefulness of the Institute to both countries, the Institute sponsors lectures, seminars, workshops, language and cultural institutes, and partnership opportunities for American and Chinese businesses and institutions. Benedictine University initially partnered with two Chinese universities – Shenyang University of Technology and Shenyang Jianzhu University – to offer Benedictine degrees in China and to facilitate business and student exchanges between the two countries.
