Master of Public Health

We have recently received permission from the North Central Association, the largest and most prestigious academic accreditation organization in the United States to offer our Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) degree in cooperation with universities anywhere in China. We would like to explore this possibility with your institution.

The news of international health is on the front pages of newspapers daily. Now, as never before, each country is the guardian of the public’s health, both at home and abroad. For more than a century, the Master of Public Health degree has been the standard international credential in the field of public health. It has provided the model and the education for professionals to work across the boundaries of their professions to prevent health problems, anticipate needs and plan for the future of their communities. The field of public health is very broad. Its 10 essential services include:

  1. Monitor health status to identify and solve community health problems.
  1. Diagnose and investigate health problems and health hazards in the community.
  1. Inform, educate and empower people about health issues.
  1. Mobilize community partnerships and action to identify and solve health problems.
  1. Develop policies and plans that support individual and community health efforts.
  1. Enforce laws and regulations that protect health and ensure safety.
  1. Link people to needed personal health services and assure the provision of health care when otherwise unavailable.
  1. Assure competent public and personal health care workforce.
  1. Evaluate effectiveness, accessibility, and quality of personal and population-based health services.
  1. Research for new insights and innovative solutions to health problems.

Therefore Benedictine University’s M.P.H. Program welcomes a wide variety of professionals including health professionals, engineers, social scientists, educators and administrators. All candidates for the M.P.H. degree are educated in the same core of courses that include statistics, administration, environment, epidemiology, scientific method and courses that describe the health organization, conditions and concerns of the country and population they serve.

Coursework too is varied and includes didactic methods as well as individual and group investigations and presentations. The program of study culminates in an internship—a supervised job placement in an organization that participates in the effort to protect the public’s health. The Benedictine University program is well known in administration, health education, nutrition, emergency/disaster management and health policy.

Through our China Institute, we are constantly seeking business, professional and cultural exchange programs in China. We hope you will be interested in what we have to offer. We have been doing so in Shenyang since 2003. We enjoy a reputation for quality programs, taught cooperatively with partner universities and at highly discounted tuition.

We look forward to your positive response and would be happy to meet with you to explore the possibilities.
