The School of Education collects and analyzes data, on an on-going basis, relative to candidate performance and unit operations related to content and pedagogical knowledge (professional and State standards), content and pedagogical performance (clinical practice), instructional planning, candidate impact on student learning, and dispositions (professional, State, and institutional). The purpose of this data collection and analysis is to evaluate the progress of candidates and to improve programs.
Marshall Milbrath has background in teaching, coaching, and fitness. Milbrath served four years as a middle and high school science teacher before returning to graduate school to enter the field of health and sport sciences. A certified USA Track & Field Level 2 coach in sprints, endurance, and throwing events, Milbrath has 9 years of coaching experience in high school and college settings. Additionally, he serves as a USATF Level 1 Coaching Education instructor. Possessing master’s degrees in curriculum and instruction and exercise physiology, Milbrath’s research interests aim to bridge the science and pedagogy of sport through investigation of coaching education, decision-making in coaching, and physiological components of endurance running. Milbrath is “ABD” in a doctoral program in sport pedagogy at University of Northern Colorado.
Marshall’s background as a competitive athlete was one of the main motivators for his entrance into the health and sport studies profession. As an endurance runner, he was a three-time collegiate all-conference cross-country runner in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (NCAA Div. III) and later placed 20th at the 2012 USATF National 50-mile Championships. Marshall still enjoys running, and has goals to return to ultra-running in the future. Marshall resides in Oak Park, Illinois with his wife Gwyneth, who is an assistant clinical professor of nursing at University of Illinois – Chicago.
