Center for Civic Leadership

Established by former Illinois Attorney General Jim Ryan and the Department of Political Science, Benedictine University's Center for Civic Leadership helps prepare students for leadership roles in public service and as world citizens by offering them opportunities to learn more about issues of local, national, and international concern. In addition to providing scholarships for students who demonstrate leadership potential, the Center regularly invites prominent public figures to campus to participate in lectures, seminars, symposia, and other events dealing with politics and public affairs.

The Center's past speakers have included then-U.S. Senate candidate Barack Obama, former Vermont governor and 2008 presidential candidate Howard Dean, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, Children's Defense Fund Director Marian Wright Edelman, and human rights advocate Paul Rusesabagina. The Center has also sponsored talks by Washington Post columnists Bob Woodward and David Broder, founder and Fox News contributor Erick-Woods Erickson, CNN's Peter Bergen, economist and Obama adviser Austan Goolsbee, and Illinois Supreme Court Justice Anne Burke.

We invite you to explore The Center's website to learn more about our programs, as well as about the special opportunities we can offer students interested in politics and public service.
