Department of Languages and Literature

Undergraduate Majors and Minors

In addition to its program in English for Academic Purposes, the Department of Languages and Literature offers undergraduate programs of study in the following areas:

Chinese minor only

Designed to allow students to attain proficiency in Mandarin Chinese at the intermediate level, the minor in Chinese also offers an interdisciplinary introduction to the history and culture of China.

English Language & Literature major and minor

The major and minor in English Language & Literature provides exposure to significant writers, periods, genres and literary traditions, while also introducing students to key methods in critical reading and analysis.

Spanish major and minor

The Department's programs in Spanish combine rigorous language instruction with sustained attention to the literature, culture, and political history of Spain and Latin America. Students may also elect to pursue a concentration or minor in Medical Spanish, a new program designed to meet the needs of future health care professionals and emergency responders who plan to work with Spanish-speaking populations.

Students also have the option of pursuing Secondary Education certification in conjunction with a major in either English Language & Literature or Spanish.
