Fall 2020 Safe Return to Campus Plan

There’s nothing like the restless excitement we all feel before the start of a new BenU fall semester. Sharing in new lessons, making lifelong friends, pursuing our passions and living our hallmarks – leading the charge to make this world better.

And despite the new challenges we face this year, we are committed to delivering the same quality education, the same opportunity, the same inclusive community and the same rich experiences that only Benedictine University can bring – all while keeping our BenU community informed and protected amid the ongoing pandemic.

In order to live up to this promise, the COVID-19 Task Force teams were fielded early in May and charged with researching the “how and when” to return to campus, along with the pros and cons of a return to the physical BenU learning experience.

After extensive research and counsel with medical experts, and in daily collaboration with BenU leaders from across University operations and academics, we developed the official COVID-19 Safe Return to Campus Plan – a thorough and extensive guide to keep us safe while we gather together on campus. Within this plan, you will find:

  • The BenU Healthy Hallmarks Pledge: "Protect Our Flock"
  • Important procedures for the "Six-Foot Campus"
  • An overview of the protective and operational changes made to campus
  • The Lisle Campus Dining Plan
  • The Academic Plan (BenUFlex)
  • The Return to Campus Guide for Faculty and Staff
  • Guidelines for reporting positive COVID-19 cases or exposure
  • Introductions of our COVID-19 Task Force Teams

*We are still gathering insight and details to inform our Housing and Athletics plans. This document will be updated frequently with the latest information.

The BenU Healthy Hallmarks are at the heart of this Safe Return to Campus Plan. No matter the obstacle life puts in our path, we look to our values to show us the way and support our commitment to community. As we unite to protect our health and safety and stop the spread of COVID-19, we will work together to keep our way of life as stable as possible. We commit to hold each other accountable, to take every precaution and to let our Benedictine hospitality shine through (even while wearing a mask).

Thank you to our students, faculty, staff and community for your faith in Benedictine as we move forward together during these uncertain times. This year, like never before, we will stand side by side in solidarity and commitment to one another. This is the year of community – and we could not do this without each and every one of you.

Sincerely,

The COVID-19 Task Force Teams
