Projects and Activities

  • Calculus Assessment Online
In year 2003-2004, I developed the know-how, and created a database of Calculus problems for online assessment. The problem of creating mathematics problems is non-trivial, since mathematical type-setting is complicated, and there is a need to create multiple problems of the same type, having the same difficulty level. I have trained fellow faculty members to use this database. The problems will be used by all sections of Calculus I taught at Benedictine University.

  • Math Placement Tests Online
I developed the know-how and am now writing the mathematics placement tests in electronic form. This will save the math department many man-hours, since now the tests can be graded at the click of a button. There also is a possibility of offering these tests long distance.

  • Gateway Test for Calculus
We are now creating an online gateway test for calculus for Benedictine University.

  • Cryptography
In Spring 2004, I developed and taught a topics course Math 390 Cryptography. Having no prior knowledge of the subject, I picked up the topic because of its interest to undergraduates. The course served to attract students from varied backgrounds to learn about the applications of mathematics. Many students presented papers at various professional organizations. I invited two external speakers in the course: Dr. Daniel Smith from Furman University and Dr. Stefen Treatman from the National Security Agency.
