What is Financial Aid?
Financial aid is the bridge between your ability to pay for postsecondary education and the costs of a college education. Financial aid can include outside scholarships and federal student loans. You must file a FAFSA to receive federal aid.
What is the FAFSA?
The FAFSA (the Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is the first step in the financial aid process. The FAFSA requires student (if filed) 2010 federal tax returns and W2's, asset and bank information, and about an hour of time to complete. Students can apply online at: www.fafsa.gov
Benedictine University school code: 001767. Basic requirements to file: Be a U.S. Citizen/eligible non-citizen, have a valid SSN, be working on a post secondary degree.Please keep in mind a new FAFSA must be completed every aid year
How much financial aid will I receive?
Graduate students are eligible for up to $20,500 in Direct Stafford loans each year. Subsidized: $8,500, Unsubsidized $12,000. Graduate PLUS loans can be borrowed up to the students Cost of Attendance.
Are there scholarships available?
Outside scholarships may be available to students. Popular sites to search include www.fastweb.com, www.scholaships.com, and www.finaid.org.
When will I receive loan funds?
To receive your loans funds you must complete a Subsidized/Unsubsidized Master Promissory Note (MPN) and loan entrance counseling at www.studentloans.gov. Generally your loan funds are applied to your account the second week of classes. Any refunds are mailed 10-14 days after the disbursement of the funds.
How many hours do I have to be enrolled in to receive aid?
Graduate Quarter Students must be enrolled in at least 4 credit hours, Graduate Semester Students must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours. If you are enrolled for less you will not be eligible for loan funds.
What if my employer provides tuition assistance?
If your employer provides tuition assistance you should contact Student Accounts and notify Financial Aid of any amount you expect to receive.
