Office of Corporate, Foundation and Government Grants

Volume 1 - Number 1
- April 2007 Newsletter

Welcome to our first edition of the Corporate Foundation and Government Grants newsletter! The overall goal of this publication is to provide basic information to faculty and staff about the grant process, services of the Grants office and various grant opportunities available.

The Office of Corporate, Foundation and Government Grants webpage has been totally revised by Lindsey Kasha. The site has an easier format to follow with updated links and resources for the entire grant application process.

The updated grant approval form and grant approval process can be found here, as well as a link to the IRIS database, a grants search-engine to which the University has a subscription. There are also links to the grants programs of a number of federal and state agencies.

Also worth noting is the Awards, Fellowships and Grants page in the Academic Programs section of the University's web-page. This provides recent information on the office's activity and has also been updated.

Some recently awarded grants:

  • The Helen Brach Foundation recently awarded Benedictine University a $30,000 grant to assist with scholarships. Other foundations that have provided generous scholarship assistance during this fiscal year include the W. P. and H. B. White Foundation, the Cuneo Foundation, and the Arthur J. Schmitt Foundation.

  • The McCormick Tribune Foundation awarded a grant to the University's Center for Civic Leadership and Public Service to assist with the April 16 address by Evan Thomas on Newsweek on "Election 2008: Presidential Leadership in a Troubled World."

Gloria Hunter of Hunter Entrepreneurial Institute recently gave a Grant Workshop
to interested faculty from the College of Liberal Arts, as she did in January for the College of Science. Gloria has also been assisting with several proposals recently submitted or in preparation for the National Science Foundation.

Benedictine University seems well along the way to obtaining its third-year renewal of the Middle East Partnership Initiative of the U. S. Department of State. The response to the proposed program for the summer of 2007 recently submitted by Drs. Maria de la Camara and Roger Rose was very positive.
