Study Abroad Academic Planning

Academic Planning

There is a misconception that participating in a study abroad program will add an extra semester to your time at college. This is not true.

Benedictine University has developed a course pre-approval process that allows a student to take courses that will work towards their major, minor or core course requirements. All students participating in an individual study abroad program are required to fill out the Education Abroad Course Equivalency Form.

The study abroad course pre-approval process, after acceptance into a program abroad:

  • Choose possible courses with a study abroad advisor.
  • Work with department heads and academic advisors to find Benedictine equivalent courses.
  • Complete the Education Abroad Course Equivalency Form.
  • Register for courses for the abroad program.
