Intensive
English Immersion
The Intensive English Immersion (IEI) program is an academically
based 12-month intensive English program located on our Springfield-Benedictine
University campus in Springfield, Illinois, three hours south
of Benedictine's main campus in Lisle, Illinois. The program focuses
on assisting international students in developing their English
language proficiency to the level needed to pursue their education
in one of the degree programs at Benedictine University. The IEI
consists of four 10-week quarters.
The IEI has three proficiency levels: beginning, intermediate
and advanced. The courses focus on the academic skills of listening,
speaking, reading and writing. Grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation
are integrated into all skills. Students are in class for 20 hours
weekly with additional instruction in Computer Assisted Language
Learning and elective courses such as American Studies, Success
in the American Classroom, Business Communication, Literature
and English through Film Studies.
Students who are residents of the U.S. and are not yet prepared
for admission to the English for Academic Purposes program, or
