International Admissions
at Benedictine University

Required Documents for Admission

The following materials are required to complete the application process:

  1. Benedictine University International Student Applications:
Thoroughly read the instructions, complete every item, and sign the application form. Incomplete forms will not be considered.

Click here for the Applications page

  2. Personal Statement:
Please write your personal statement according to the instructions.

  3. Copy of Passport:

Please include a copy of the personal information page of your passport (with date of birth, full name, etc.). Please do not copy or send other pages.

  4. Transcripts:
Submit official transcripts, official translations, and the ECE evaluation. ECE applications are available on the internet at the ECE website or in the International Center.

  5. Standardized Test Scores:
Provide ACT or SAT scores; both assessments are offered in most countries. Contact ACT by e-mail at http://www.collegeboard.com. Graduate students should submit Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) scores for the Master of Business degree.

  6. References:
Include two professional letters of reference written by non-family members, that focus on the applicants character, personality, and seriousness. Click here for a reference letter template.

  7. Language Proficiency:
All international applicants whose native language is not English must demonstrate English-language proficiency as a term of admission to the University. All applicants will be required to take the Benedictine University verbal and written proficiency entrance examinations to completely assess functional academic communication proficiency. These assessments will be given during the orientation period that is usually one week prior to the start of classes.

    Proficiency may be evidenced by:
    • Providing official documentation indicating a score of 550 of above on the paper version of the test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or 213 or above on the computer version, or 79 or above on the online version, or submission of an internationally known test of English proficiency, (i.e. TOIEC, Michigan, or other recognized English assessment). Information regarding TOEFL may be obtained by contacting the web site at: http://www.toefl.org.

    • Supplying an original U.S. high school transcript from the school from which the applicant graduated and completed two years of study with English as a Second Language instruction;

    • Completing two years of full-time study at a university where the language of instruction was in English.

  8. Evidence of Financial Support:
The Immigration Service (USCIS) requires student applicants to submit evidence of finances in order to obtain the certificate of Eligibility (Form I-20) from the International Student Service Office. Confidential Letter of Support (Word doc)

  9. Health Form and Immunization:
Please be sure to complete the Health Form in English, and mail it with your application.

Students must submit a physician's statement of a recent physical examination in which the physician confirms that the student is free from tuberculosis.

If you have had a TB skin test within the last year and you sent those results, please be advised that international medical results do not always "translate" into U.S. medical results. Benedictine University reserves the right to reject any medical form that is not deemed satisfactory. If this happens, you may have to be examined and treated through the local health department; this is a safety standard to assure that all of our students are healthy and free of communicable diseases.

The State of Illinois Immunization Law requires a verified record of each student's immunization history (for students taking 7.5 credit hours or more in school and born after 1956). Proof of immunity to measles, mumps, rubella, diphtheria and tetanus must be presented. More details can be found on the last page of the health form.

Immunizations and TB skin tests are available through the University Health Service office for a minimal fee.
