Biographical Information

I received a BA degree in Mathematics from Beloit College, attended a year of graduate school at the University of North Carolina in Statistics and in computer Science, and received an MS degree in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I am also a Wisconsin Certified Public Manager.

I have over 35 years of experience in IT in higher education and municipal government and over 50 years of association with higher education. From the time that I was a very young child, my parents either were graduate students or employed in higher education, mostly in administrative positions. My first position was with Beloit College where I was responsible for academic computing and the maintenance of the highly modified operating system that supported time-sharing on a computer that was not supposed to be able to do this. Over the nearly 25 years that I was there, I changed roles numerous times, becoming responsible for the administration of the computer center as well administrative computing. We also migrated to two different computer systems during that time and installed an ERP system.

I left Beloit College to become the Director of Information Systems for the City of Beloit. Over the six year that I spent with the City, we moved from a Wang system to a client-server environment that improved service to the entire community. This was my first experience with bringing an outsourced application back in-house. The vendor that supported the most important applications - property assessment, tax billing, tax payment processing, and receipting, and some minor application - notified us that we had six months to find a different means of performing these functions. They were getting out of the service bureau business.

Upon leaving the City, I went to the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater, where I served in three roles for four years. I started as the manager of Technical Support and Operations, moved to the Director of Administrative Computing, and finally was a Special Assistant to the CIO. My primary role at Whitewater was to lead the joint IT-customer team in completing an ERP implementation and then an upgrade to a fully online version of that ERP.

Since leaving Whitewater, I have been the Director of Information technology here at Benedictine University. At the time I was hired, the University was in the process of ending a contract through which it had outsourced its entire IT organization. My first priority upon arrival was to secure a completely new IT team and establish a direction for that team. We pride ourselves on our:

  • Customer Service
  • Friendliness
  • Ability to Align the IT Direction with that of the University
  • Ability to Open the ERP System to new Users and New Uses
I welcome comments both from within and from without the University community.
