Voice (phone), data (ethernet) and video (cable TV) services are provided to each dorm room by the Office of Information Technology.
This page will help you identify communications receptacles provided in your room.
If you have any questions or problems with your phone or internet service, review these instructions, then
contact the Helpdesk at helpdesk@ben.edu
or call (630) 829-6684. Please provide your full name, hall and room number, and
your 4-digit extension.
Be careful to use the appropriate cable in the correct receptacle.
ie: Do not use a phone cable in a data jack.
Neuzil, Jaeger, and Ondrak:
- Communications receptacles contain voice, data and video
- Jacks are labeled for easy identification
Founders Woods:
Jack Location:
- All jacks are located by the windows in the bedrooms usually on either side of the desk
- These jacks are often hidden by the desk so be sure to locate all receptacles
- Phone jacks in many rooms are on the opposite wall from the data jack
- Data and phone jacks come in different configurations (see Jack Config and Types below)
Phone Jack Configuration:
- Most rooms have phone jacks with 2 receptacles
- The top receptacle in a double phone jack is the working jack, unless labeled otherwise
- A few rooms have a single receptacle phone jack
Data Jack Configuration:
- Data and voice connections are combined with a single jack in some rooms
- If there are two jacks they will be labeled voice and data
- If not labeled, the smaller jack is the phone jack
- If there is only one jack it is a data jack
