WebCT Information
from the Office of Information Technology
|

WebCT is the course management system (CMS) used at Benedictine University to provide online
enhancements to traditional lecture/discussion classes and to support totally online courses. Faculty may use
WebCT to deliver course materials, conduct threaded discussions, present and grade online quizzes, distribute
and collect homework assignments and direct students to course related web sites. (FlexMBA courses use the
Angel CMS rather than WebCT.)
Anyone, faculty or student, participating in any WebCT course(s) is issued a WebCT ID and Password.
Logging in to WebCT loads the participant’s personal WebCT Home Page (called the myWebCT page). Links
to all the participant’s WebCT courses appear on the myWebCT page.
Faculty WebCT IDs and initial WebCT Passwords are of the form firstinitiallastname (i.e. jsmith). Student
WebCT IDs are generally of the form FirstName_LastName, and initial student WebCT passwords are the 7-
digit Student ID number. Non-standard IDs are used in the case of duplicate names, so students should
check with their instructors to confirm their WebCT IDs. Instructors can find student WebCT IDs listed in
their WebCT class rosters.
WebCT is accessed using a full-featured web browser either directly at http://webct.ben.edu or by following
the WebCT link at the bottom of pages on the University Website, http://www.ben.edu.
WebCT workshops for faculty are offered regularly throughout the academic year. Faculty may also contact
Eileen Clark, Title III Professional Development Coordinator (eclark@ben.edu or 630-829-6576) to arrange
one-on-one training. WebCT tutorials are available in the Online Workshops section of the Title III web site,
http://www.ben.edu/titleiii.
Faculty may submit the form at http://www.ben.edu/WebCTCourseRequest to request creation of WebCT
courses. Faculty must use that same form each term to insure students are correctly enrolled in WebCT
courses.
