Benedictine University Wireless HotSpots are available in a number of campus
locations.
Use of these HotSpots is free to Benedictine students, faculty, staff and sponsored guests.
You will need proper authentication credentials (i.e., username and password) to log
onto the wireless network. All Benedictine students, faculty and staff with a valid
network account can use these same credentials for the wireless network.
Benedictine University guests should arrange for their sponsor to request guest
wireless credentials for them ahead of time by calling the Help Desk at x6684.
You must also have a properly installed wireless adapter on your mobile device.
Most new laptops are wirelessly enabled already.
Wireless HotSpot Instructions:
- Wireless On.
Verify your wireless device is ON.
(Macintosh users should also verify their Airport is set to ON.)
- Choose Network.
When in range of a Benedictine wireless HotSpot, most devices will automatically
recognize the "BENU-STUD", "BENU-STAFF", and "BENU-GUEST" networks.
- Connect.
Click to connect to the appropriate network. If a "Not Encrypted"
warning window opens, click on "Connect Anyway".
When you’re connected, the appropriate network should show as "Connected".
- Open Browser.
Open a browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox or Safari.
- Register.
When connecting to the BENU-STAFF network or BENU-STUD network,
you will be redirected to the Benedictine University Registration page.
- Update.
Follow the appropriate links and proceed with the registration process to
verify you have a properly patched operating system, up-to-date
anti-virus software and up-do-date anti-spyware software. Instructions are
included within the registration pages for your convenience.
- Log On.
When connecting to the BENU-GUEST network, the browser will open and you
will be redirected to the Wireless Login page. You are required to provide
your guest wireless credentials in order to access the Internet.
- Accept Certificate.
During your initial log on, you may be prompted to accept Benedictine’s
wireless server certificate. Click the appropriate button to accept it.
- Surf.
When a successful login has been made, your browser will be redirected
to the default browser home page. If you are able to surf from one web
site to another, you are on the Benedictine wireless network.
- Caveat.
These Wireless HotSpot instructions provide
Internet access only, not printing or network access to Benedictine University resources.
You may use BenUConnect to access network resources at
http://www.ben.edu/BenUConnect.
Please contact the Benedictine University Help Desk at x6684 with questions or
