The art gallery is pleased to present a selection of recent acquisitions and donations to the university’s permanent art collection. This exhibition will focus on works received since 2009 to the present and will include pieces by Mauricio Lasansky, Rembrandt van Rijn, Francisco de Goya, John Pittman Weber, Gayle Stevens, Henri Matisse, Charles E. Boone, David Marcet, Mary Dritschel, Bueno Silva, Stewart Hitch, Maria Salvador, John Sevigny, Luis Soto, Susana Veloz,  Asian statues and many others...

Arvydas Zambulis:  Sanctuary  - photographs

Arvydas Zambulis is a local photographer, who has spent the last several years traveling Europe and the Chicago area to photograph churches and places of worship. Mesmerized by the beauty of these sanctuaries, he presents them in all their glory, full of color and rich with details. Zambulis has studied photography at College of DuPage.

Lynn Fischer-Carlson -  “How to See Art”

Lynn Fischer-Carlson  will discuss  how you can look at and understand art. Especially for the novice art lover, this lecture will help you find out what to look for and know how to talk about art like a professional.

Ms. Fischer-Carlson is Professor of Art at Rock Valley College in Rockford, IL. She is a practicing ceramic/sculptor, and has given numerous lectures on art and art history at Rockford Art Museum. She received her Masters of Fine Arts degree from Northern Illinois University.

Please join us in an enlightening lecture about the state of contemporary Chinese art, its major artists and the scope of their work in the 21st century. Ms. Lynn Mackenzie is a Lecturer  of Art History at Benedictine University and Professor Emeritus from College of DuPage. She received her PhD in Art History from Northern Illinois University, and is author of the definitive text exploring non-western art called “Non-Western Art: A Brief Guide”.

The mixtures of cultural, religious and decorative styles found in Mexico and Peru during the 16th c. are out of this world. Benedictine University Curator, Teresa J. Parker, will discuss the origins of some of these practices and show examples of art and decorative arts. Ms. Parker is a practicing artist and has been curating exhibitions for over 20 years. She received her Masters of Fine Arts degree from Illinois State University.

Dr. David Oulette:  “The Mayan Creation Myth of Popul Vuh”

Dr. David Oulette will give an engaging discussion about the ancient pre-Columbian Popul Vuh codex and how it helped shape the Mayans’ belief about creation and death.  Dr. Oullette is Instructor of Art History at College of DuPage and received his PhD in Art History from Northern Illinois University.

William Scarlato, Professor of Art and Chair of the Fine Arts program at Benedictine University, will discuss the topic of 20th century Modernism and its application to the human figure. Scarlato is an exhibiting painter and printmaker, and he received his Masters of Fine Arts degree from Yale University.
