Benedictine Library READ Poster: Dr. Phyllis Kittel
  Dr. Kittel writes:

"The book I am holding is Redemption, about how shelters can better serve the public without euthanizing abandoned pets. The other critter in the pictures is Mickey, an 8 year-old, husky shepherd mix that has been at the shelter for about 7 months. We never euthanize for time or space, so he will live here until someone takes him home. Our shelter is outstanding in serving the people of Chaffee County by caring for homeless and abandoned dogs and cats. I am one of several hundred volunteers who support the shelter. Our tiny staff performs fantastically. Besides keeping the facility sparkling clean, they rotate dogs in play groups twice a day through large off leash yards. They rotate our cats through play rooms. Generous people adopt needy animals of every description, from blind to deaf to elderly. People come from all over the state, and even the country, to adopt thanks to petfinder.com."
