Library Facilities

I'm not affiliated with the University. Can I use the library?

While Benedictine University students, faculty and staff receive first priority for the library's facilities and services, any member of the public is welcome to use the Benedictine Library. Members of the public can browse the collection and use library databases free of charge. (There is a 5 cents per page charge for printing for persons not affiliated with the University.)

Public library cardholders from Metropolitan Library System libraries may apply for borrowing privileges at the Circulation Desk. A current, valid public library card and Photo ID is required. Naperville Public Library cardholders may also apply for borrowing privileges at the Benedictine Library after getting their library card validated at the Lisle Public Library.

Can I get a tour of the library?

  • Library tours can be arranged for individuals and groups by appointment. Please contact the Reference Desk at (630) 829-6057 or e-mail to libref@ben.edu

Who can I ask for help?

The Reference Desk is normally staffed all hours the library is open except for a few late evening hours on Sundays. Can I bring food and drinks into the library?

Food and drinks are allowed under the following guidelines:

  • All beverages must be in containers with secure lids or caps.
  • Personal servings of food are allowed in covered, sealed containers.
  • All wrappers, cups and containers should be taken with you or discarded in appropriate trash containers when you leave. Clean up any spills or messes.

For more information, see the complete Food, Drink & Noise Policy.

Where is there a quiet area to study?

The 3rd and 4th floors are designated "Quiet Study" floors. However, we ask library patrons to keep noise to a minimum on all floors of the library. Please turn off cell phones & pagers or set them to non-audible signals. Cell phone calls may be taken in the West stairwell only. Headphones must be used with audio equipment (CD players, radios, websites with sound, etc.)

The library staff reserves the right to ask persons who are being noisy or disruptive to leave the library. For more information, see the complete Food, Drink & Noise Policy.
