Course Reserves information for students

How do I find out what's on reserve for my class?

All materials that are placed on reserve by instructors can be found by searching the Library's catalog, I-SHARE. On the Library's home page, go to the Reserves & Course Support section and click on search course reserves.

reserves search screen

On the Course Reserves page, pick your Instructor, Department, and/or Course from the menu and select Search. Keep in mind that Courses are listed in order of the course number (i.e. Math 211). As instructors put materials on reserve for multiple courses, the more options you choose, the smaller your list of items will be.

A list of items will display, along with the course name, number and item status.

If you do not see the item you are looking for, visit the Circulation Desk or call (630) 829-6050.

Where to I go to check out reserve items?

Reserve items are held behind the Circulation Desk on the 2nd floor of the Benedictine Library. You can check out items at the desk any time the library is open. In-library use only items must be returned 15 minutes before the library closes.

How long can I check out reserve items? Can I take them out of the library?

Instructors can choose several loan periods for reserve items. The most common is a two-hour reserve where the items must stay in the library. This is so materials are available to the all students in a class at any time. Reserve items that can leave the library are due back by the end of the day on the due date. Loan periods are listed below:

Loan Period Can item leave the library?
2 hour No
3 hour No
1 day Yes
3 day Yes
1 week Yes

Library staff at the Circulation Desk will let you know when a reserve item is due. Please return all reserve items to the Circulation Desk, not the book drop outside the library.

How do I access items on e-reserve?

Please refer to the handout (in Word or Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format) for instructions.
