How do I borrow materials
from another library?
Materials may be borrowed from several institutions with
which Benedictine University has agreements.
I-SHARE
and LIBRAS
libraries allow Benedictine University patrons to check
out items in person. Metropolitan Library System libraries
provide privileges to Benedictine University patrons.
Please contact the Reference Desk at libref@ben.edu
or (630) 829-6057, or the Interlibrary Loan department
at libill@ben.edu
or (630) 829-6056, for assistance and details.
Items may also be ordered and sent to the Benedictine Library
by other libraries. For more information, see "How
do I request materials through Interlibrary Loan?"

How long do Interlibrary
Loans take?
In general, it takes two to four weeks, or 10-20 business
days, for items to arrive at the Benedictine Library,
regardless of item format. Some items may arrive sooner.
How do I follow
up on interlibrary loan requests?
If you have not heard about the status of your request
after 10 business days, contact the Interlibrary Loan
department at libill@ben.edu
or (630) 829-6056 to inquire about its status.
Where do I pick up
my Interlibrary Loan items?
For books: the Interlibrary Loan department will
call you when an item arrives at the library. Items can
be picked up at the Circulation Desk on the main (2nd)
floor of the library. Books not picked up within two weeks
will be returned to the lending library.
For articles: as of August 7, 2006, all articles
will be delivered to patrons online via a secure Web server.
Patrons will receive an email to their ben.edu email address
informing them when an article is available for online
pickup. Articles will be accessible online until they
have been accessed five times, or two weeks have passed,
whichever comes first. To retrieve their articles, patrons
will need to know their Library ID number and the email
address they used to request the item (note: undergraduates
MUST use their "bnumber@ben.edu" address). Please
note that the online service will now be the only way
to retrieve articles requested on Interlibrary Loan. The
library will no longer produce printed copies of requested
articles for in-person pickup.
What if I need materials the library doesn't
have, and there isn't time to use interlibrary loan?

document delivery suppliers for fee-based alternatives
