Niina J. Ronkainen (Chemistry/Biochemistry) was invited as a member of the American Chemical Society (ACS) Examinations Institute's 2018 First Term General Chemistry Committee. The committee writes and evaluates new assessment materials and reviews essential content for a General Chemistry I course. These ACS exams are used as assessment tools and as final exams by private and public universities nationwide. The year-long appointment began at the 253rd American Chemical Society National Meeting & Exposition in San Francisco, Calif., in April.
Highly decorated former CIA agent to address global terrorism
Former CIA agent Robert Baer will present "National Security and Global Terrorism in the 21st Century" at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, in the Goodwin Hall Auditorium. Baer is one of the most accomplished agents in CIA history and was awarded the Career Intelligence Medal for his efforts. He is the author of four The New York Times bestsellers, including "See No Evil," the basis for the acclaimed film "Syriana" which earned George Clooney an Academy Award for his portrayal of Baer. Considered one of the world's foremost authorities on the Middle East, Baer frequently appears on all major news outlets. He writes regularly for Time.com, and has contributed to Vanity Fair, The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post. The presentation is sponsored by the Center for Civic Leadership at Benedictine University and is free and open to the public. Employee Appreciation Day is May 17
Employee Appreciation Day will be held from 1:00-2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, on the second floor of the Krasa Center. Faculty who have been promoted and employees who have given years of service will be recognized.
Congratulations to the Class of 2017!
The 127th Commencement Convocation for associate and bachelor's degree recipients will be held at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, at the Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex. The ceremony for master's and doctoral degree recipients will begin at 9:45 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 3, at the Rice Center. There will be a reception immediately after each ceremony in the Campus Quad. In case of inclement weather, the ceremonies will be held in the Rice Center. Transfer Admitted Student Day prepares students for the fall semester
Transfer students already admitted to the University are invited to Transfer Admitted Student Day on Friday, April 28, in the Goodwin Hall of Business. Students will have the opportunity to meet with Advising Center staff, and review transfer credit evaluations, financial aid and scholarships. Students will also be able to pay their tuition deposit, sign up for fall placement testing and learn more about their fall class schedule. Annual Campus Security and Fire Report available online
Faculty, staff and students can access the Annual Campus Security and Fire Report for calendar year 2015, which is published in 2016, as required by the U.S. Department of Education, for the Lisle main campus, Naperville Operational Center, Bellwood Learning Center, and Springfield, Ill., and Mesa, Ariz., branch campuses at http://www.ben.edu/police/index.cfm.

The Benedictine softball team notched a pair of walk-off wins in a 4-0 weekend, collecting the 25th win of the season.
The Benedictine women’s lacrosse team honored the senior class before a win over Wartburg in the home finale to match the single season school record for wins.
The Benedictine women’s outdoor track and field team competed at Concordia Chicago.
The Benedictine men’s lacrosse team dropped a non-conference battle with Carthage.

Graduation day is almost here!
Benedictine University at Springfield will hold Commencement Convocation ceremonies on Sunday, May 14, for bachelor's degree recipients at 11:00 a.m., and for master's and doctoral degree recipients at 2:00 p.m. in Angela Hall. The Baccalaureate Mass will be at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 12, in the Sacred Heart Chapel. The Awards and Hooding ceremony will be at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 12, in the Angela Hall gym.
Hooding Ceremony recognizes distinctive academic achievement
The hooding of undergraduates by a faculty or staff member chosen by the candidate begins at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 19, at the Gillett Hall Community Room. This is a tradition unique to Benedictine dating back to 1975. The ceremony gives graduating seniors the opportunity to recognize an individual who played an important part in their academic and personal development during their collegiate years.
