The Scholars Program will host two sessions for senior presentations. The day session will be from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, in the Krasa Center Presentation Room; the night sessions will be from 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3 and Thursday, April 4. Topics vary widely and include – but are not limited to – germs, music, the media, genomics, medicine, literature and the concept of happiness. The Center for Civic Leadership (CCL) at Benedictine University will hold its Eighth Annual Youth Government Day from 8:45 a.m.-2:15 p.m. on Thursday, April 4 in the Dan and Ada Rice Center. Approximately 400 area high school students are expected to participate in this year’s event, which will focus on political corruption and fiscal mismanagement in Illinois, and feature presentations from a variety of academics, citizen advocates and investigative journalists.
Joanna Beth Tweedy, associate dean of Academic Affairs at Benedictine University at Springfield and author of “The Yonder Side of Sass and Texas” and numerous other publications, will talk about her novel written in the South Midland dialect. Join her for “Cow-Catchers, Bumfuzzles, and Chiggers–Oh, my!” from 4:15-5:15 p.m. on Thursday, April 4 on the second floor of Kindlon Hall in the Benedictine Library IdeaLounge, near the windows beyond the TV monitors. Open Mic and Poetry Slam Spring 2013 will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 4 at the Coal Ben. The poetry slam will have two rounds, so bring at least two original poems if you want to participate in the contest. There will be music and refreshments. Winners will receive prizes. BenU UNICEF invites the public to attend a hunger banquet at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, April 8 in Krasa Center, Rooms A, B and C. Money Smart Week is a public awareness campaign aimed at helping individuals better manage their finances. Student Activities, the College of Business and the Undergraduate Business Programs will sponsor two events to help you get in the spirit. “Navigating Personal Finances in Today’s Environment” will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9 in the Krasa Student Center, Rooms A and B, and will feature five speakers with expertise in the area of personal finance. The “Big Money” presentation - featuring T-shirts, cash prizes and the money machine - will take place from 7:00-9:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 11 in the Krasa Presentation Room. The purpose of this event is to promote wise money management for students.

The Departments of Language and Literature, Communication Arts and Core Humanities will present "Housewives, Career Gals, and the Sexy Single Girl: Feminisms and Television's ‘Mad Men’” by Jennifer Dunn, Ph.D., assistant professor of Rhetoric and Communication at Dominican University, from 4:30-5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17 in Birck Hall, Room 218. There are critics who dismiss “Mad Men” as glorifying the sexist world of Madison Avenue in the 1960s. However, the series focuses on the ad world in the years prior to the emergence of the women's movement and the time when second wave feminism was just emerging. Complicated main characters, such as suburban housewife Betty, sexy-single girl Joan and budding career gal Peggy; and minor characters such as Don Draper's many lovers and the Draper's maid, can also help viewers understand the divisions that emerged within the feminism and the women's movement then, as well as women's lives and feminist beliefs today.

The Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex is the home of the Chicago Red Stars professional women's soccer team. The Chicago Red Stars is an American professional soccer club that was a founding member of Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) league. The Red Stars participated in WPS in 2009-2010, playing their home games at Toyota Park. After leaving the WPS in December 2010 due to financial issues, the team reorganized and joined the Women’s Premier Soccer League for the 2011 season. In 2012, the team participated in the inaugural WPSL Elite League and currently plays in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). Back to basics for healthy weight loss. While there are plenty of ways to lose weight, maintaining your weight loss over the long term is often unsuccessful. If you've lost and found the same pounds several times before, it's probably time to go back to the basics of a healthy weight. Prevention of weight gain or stopping recent weight gain can improve your health. Health can improve with even minor weight loss, such as 5-10 percent of your body weight. The baseball team finished its tough opening to conference play with a split at Aurora on Monday.
The baseball team completed a 4-0 week with a doubleheader sweep of one of the top teams in the conference on Saturday in the home and conference openers.
Facing the preseason conference favorites, the softball team came away with a home opening split with Aurora.
A makeup date has been set for the postponed softball doubleheader between Benedictine and Wheaton.
The men’s lacrosse team made it back-to-back victories for the first time with a road win at MSOE.
Kicking off the outdoor portion of the schedule, the men’s track and field team placed third at North Central.
The women’s track and field team won a pair of events in a strong season opening showing at North Central.
The men’s golf team took part in the Aurora Spring Invite on Monday.
Playing for the first time this spring, the women’s golf team opened action at the University of St. Francis Spring Invite.
