Hai Ri Han (Fine Arts) is one of just a handful of artists whose work was selected from among more than 1,200 entries from 35 countries for exhibition in “ArtVenice Biennale 3” in Venice, Italy. ArtVenice Biennale 3 is an online juried competition as well as a large screen digital presentation being held at a beautiful, large gallery space in Venice during the opening week of The Venice Biennale 56.
Faculty and staff invited to meet the candidates
Faculty and staff will have the opportunity to meet the four finalists for the position of president of Benedictine University from 8:40-9:40 a.m. on Wednesday, May 13, Thursday, May 14, Monday, May 18 and Tuesday, May 19, in Birck Hall, Room 112 (Tellabs Lecture Hall). Candidate names and their curriculum vitae will be distributed on the morning of each visit. All those who attend these sessions will have the opportunity to provide additional input through a follow-up survey.

Benedictine partners with John Marshall to offer joint M.B.A./J.D.
Individuals seeking a graduate degree to enhance their careers should consider Benedictine University’s new joint Master of Business (M.B.A.) and Juris Doctorate (J.D.) program with John Marshall Law School. After meeting admissions requirements at both schools, students can take classes at John Marshall toward a law degree and at Benedictine toward earning an M.B.A. Students enrolling in the joint program can attend classes part-time or full-time. However, full-time law students must attend the first year of law school exclusively at John Marshall. Part-time students can attend classes simultaneously at Benedictine and John Marshall. The fall application period for John Marshall is August 15-April 1 and the spring application period is August 15-November 15. Completed applications must include: electronic application form; LSAT score; transcripts and letters of recommendation; personal statement; resume (optional); and application fee. The John Marshall Law School operates on a rolling admission policy. The Office of Admission continues to review applications until the entering class is full. Applications submitted after the deadline will only be considered if space is available.

Slammers to play exhibition game at Sports Complex
The Joliet Slammers baseball team, a member of the professional independent Frontier League, will play an exhibition game against the Rockford Aviators at the Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex at 7:05 p.m. on Monday, May 11. Tickets for the game are $5 and can be purchased online at jolietslammers.com/tickets or by calling (815) 722-2287. The Frontier League was formed in 1993, and is the oldest operating independent league. During the 2014 season, more than 60 players from Frontier League teams were picked up by Major League Baseball organizations.

Benedictine University's Eagles Basketball Camp for boys in grades 3-8 will be held from 9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on Tuesday-Friday, June 9-12 at the Rice Center. The goal of the camp is to create an entertaining environment for learning the game of basketball and place campers in a setting where they will develop lasting friendships with fellow campers and coaches. The camp is directed by Benedictine men's basketball coach Keith Bunkenburg, one of the nation’s winningest active Division III coaches. Spend Tuesday night with the Sisters
The Sisters of Sacred Heart Monastery are celebrating the Year of Consecrated Life with a viewing of “A Question of Habit,” a full length documentary film that examines the depiction of Catholic nuns in contemporary U.S. popular culture, at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12 at the monastery, 1910 Maple Ave., in Lisle. The movie contrasts the images of nuns in contemporary U.S. popular culture with the lives of actual women religious, both historical and current. Although most Roman Catholic women religious in the U.S. have not worn the full habits of their orders for more than 40 years, images of nuns and sisters in such habits can be found in numerous and surprising aspects of pop culture. The sisters’ special guest is Bren Ortega Murphy, Ph.D., who is the writer, producer and director of the film. She holds a joint appointment in both the School of Communication and the Women’s Studies/Gender Studies program in the College of Arts and Sciences at Loyola University.

Expect the best but prepare for the worst
Faculty, staff and students are invited to participate in the Campus Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training program designed to prepare staff and students to help themselves, their family, friends and neighbors in the event of a disaster. The training covers basic skills that are important to know in a disaster when emergency services are not available, such as emergency preparedness, fire safety, emergency medical operations, emergency response organization and disaster psychology.
