Larry Causby (Master of Public Health Online Disaster Management) was awarded the Georgia Educator of the Year award by the Georgia Association of Emergency Medical Services (GAEMS). GAEMS is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping emergency medical technicians and paramedics who work in Georgia. Causby has been teaching at Benedictine since 2010.
Heading outdoors this summer? Hiking? Biking? Camping? Canoeing? Or simply driving through a remote region of the country? Then you should attend "What 2 Know B4 You Go," a program specifically designed for families with young children and individuals with limited experience in the outdoors presented by the Jurica-Suchy Nature Museum from 1:00-4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 1. The presentation includes story telling – both true and hypothetical – with plenty of examples and hands-on demonstrations. The instructor will also share a list of essential items – lightweight, relatively inexpensive but which could turn potential disaster into mere inconvenience -- for a personal survival kit. The program is for adults and children age 10 and older. Attendees between 10-16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Dress for the weather. Part of the program is held outdoors. Benedictine University's Eagles Basketball Camp for boys in grades 3-8 will be held from 9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on Monday-Thursday, June 10-13 at the Rice Center. Benedictine University Men's Lacrosse will host a camp for boys in grades 4-12 on Sunday-Thursday, July 14-18, at the Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex. The camp will feature professional lacrosse player Kyle Harrison and other professional players and coaches. Deep Roots Lacrosse camp, presented by TAMA Lacrosse, is an instructional skills camp that is dedicated to maximizing the potential of each player's lacrosse abilities. Each player will have the opportunity to work with professional lacrosse players, college coaches and college lacrosse players. The Benedictine University Library's summer hours will continue through Sunday, August 25. The library's summer hours are: 8:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m., Monday-Thursday (research assistance will be available on the third floor from 9:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m.) and 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. on Fridays (research assistance will be available on the third floor from 9:00 a.m. -5:00 p.m.). "Benedictine University Sleuths" is back. The intensive, problem-based learning program for students entering grades five to nine in the fall of 2013 will be held from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. on Monday-Thursday, June 24-27 on the Benedictine University campus. Summer Fun Day Camp registration is under way. Boys and girls ages 5-13 are invited to spend a fun-filled summer beginning with the first of nine weekly sessions on Monday, June 3. Activities include games, sports, computers, fishing, movies, reading and arts and crafts. The camp runs Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. The cost for Benedictine employees is $135 per week (five days per week), $108 for four days per week and $81 for three days per week. Sessions are June 3-7, June 10-14, June 17-21, June 24-28, July 1-5 (no camp July 4), July 8-12, July 15-19, July 22-26, July 29-August 2, and August 5-9. The Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex is the home of the Chicago Red Stars professional women's soccer team. The Chicago Red Stars is an American professional soccer club that was a founding member of Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) league. The Red Stars participated in WPS in 2009-2010, playing their home games at Toyota Park. After leaving the WPS in December 2010 due to financial issues, the team reorganized and joined the Women’s Premier Soccer League for the 2011 season. In 2012, the team participated in the inaugural WPSL Elite League and currently plays in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).
