Kari L. Stone (Chemistry) was an invited speaker at the Dr. Leonard Weisenthal Colloquium Series at Lewis University on April 21. The colloquium series is run jointly by the departments of Chemistry and Physics at Lewis. Stone’s presentation, titled “Enzyme Mechanism from an Inorganic Perspective,” discussed spectroscopic tools to elucidate enzyme mechanisms with a particular focus on the role of metal ions in biological processes.
Employee Appreciation Day will be held from 1:00-2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, on the second floor of the Krasa Center. Faculty who have been promoted and employees who have given years of service will be recognized.
Spend Tuesday night with the Sisters
"Tuesday Night with the Sisters" returns from 7:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9. Join us as we look at the Beatitudes of Pope Francis through the eyes of St. Benedict. Carrie Roberts, M.A., director of Campus Ministry at Benedictine University, will guide attendees through the second beatitude, "Blessed are those who look into the eyes of the abandoned and marginalized, and show them their closeness." Sacred Heart Monastery is located at 1910 Maple Ave. Enter at the front door by the statue of the Sacred Heart. The event is free, but donations are appreciated.Congratulations to the Class of 2017!
The 127th Commencement Convocation for associate and bachelor's degree recipients will be held at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, at the Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex. The ceremony for master's and doctoral degree recipients will begin at 9:45 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 3, at the Rice Center. There will be a reception immediately after each ceremony in the Campus Quad. In case of inclement weather, the ceremonies will be held in the Rice Center. Graduation day is almost here!
Benedictine University at Springfield will hold Commencement Convocation ceremonies on Sunday, May 14, for bachelor's degree recipients at 11:00 a.m., and for master's and doctoral degree recipients at 2:00 p.m. in Angela Hall. The Baccalaureate Mass will be at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 12, in the Sacred Heart Chapel. The Awards and Hooding Ceremony will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 12, in the Angela Hall gymnasium.
Hooding Ceremony recognizes distinctive academic achievement
The hooding of undergraduates by a faculty or staff member chosen by the candidate begins at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 19, at the Gillett Hall Community Room. This is a tradition unique to Benedictine dating back to 1975. The ceremony gives graduating seniors the opportunity to recognize an individual who played an important part in their academic and personal development during their collegiate years.
