Life Span Services
Certificate/Concentration and Masters in Clinical Psychology
Preparing professionals to assume positions in the delivery of services to older adults and their families.

Certificate/Concentration Courses

The need for professionals who can skillfully address issues related to older adults and their families is one of the most important demands of the current (and growing) aging population. Current trends for Americans 65 years of age and older reflect a dramatic growth in population (estimated to double by the year 2030). Gerontologists are continuing to identify concerns, namely that mental health professionals are presently under serving these population trends.

The Life Span Services concentration prepares graduates to assume professional leadership positions in the delivery of services to older adults and their families, in the planning and evaluation of services, in administration of programs, and in the instruction of older adults and service providers.

Whether you currently work in the gerontology and/or related fields or expect to enter it, you will find our certificate courses valuable to your future success in the field. Professionals who plan to work with the aging population need to understand issues like; the theoretical development of the aging process and changes in the health care system. In addition it will be important to have appropriate clinical assessment and administrative skills. A graduate degree in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in Life Span Services from Benedictine University can provide you with excellent training in preparing you to serve the growing aging population.

The Masters in Clinical Psychology also offers a postgraduate degree certificate in Life Span Services. This certificate is awarded upon completion of the certification/concentration courses. Previous graduate work in Life Span Services may be applied to the completion of our certificate. For further information, contact the M.C.P. office (630) 829-6230.
