Placement Testing Registration

The purpose of placement testing is to assess your current abilities and to determine which courses will be most beneficial to you as you begin your studies at Benedictine University. Placement testing is completed all online from your home. If you want to complete the placement testing on campus please contact your admissions counselor. All incoming freshman students are required to take placement tests in math and foreign language if they are wanting to study a foreign language or their major requires it. Transfer students are required to complete the math placement test if they have not successfully completed a college level math course. Before taking any exams, we advise that you prepare.

The mathematics test takes between 30 and 45 minutes; and the foreign language test takes 60 minutes. Ideally, you should complete all of your testing in one sitting; however, you have up to two (2) days to complete them all. Please schedule a block of time accordingly.

For more information on how to prepare and a list of topics covered in the math placement exam, please visit our Math Placement Testing page.

Please contact (602) 888-5500 or mesa@ben.edu with questions. You will be eligible to take the placement tests 3 business days (excluding weekends and holidays) from today's date.

Event Description:

Sarah E. Owens is Professor of Spanish at College of Charleston. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Arizona and she specializes in the writings of colonial and early modern Spanish nuns. Her research has taken her to the archives of Mexico, Spain, Chile, and the Vatican. In 2009 she published an award-winning edition of a Spanish nun’s travel account called “Journey of Five Capuchin Nuns.” Her most recent book, “Women of the Iberian Atlantic” (2012), won the award for Best Collaborative Project from the Society for the Study of Early Modern Women. It is a co-edited collection of essays that explores the lives, places, and stories of women in the Iberian Atlantic between 1500 and 1800. Her current book project, “Nuns Navigating the Spanish Empire,” is supported by a Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Her teaching interests include women writers of Latin America – from the colonial period to present day. She has taught several courses in the Masters of Education program, the Honor’s program and often teaches Introduction to Latin American Studies. Owens is passionate about study abroad and has led College of Charleston students to Spain and Chile.
