Study Abroad

Welcome!

Dear Students,

Welcome to Benedictine University Mesa and thank you for your interest in studying abroad! Studying in a foreign country for a year, semester, or just a few weeks is an excellent opportunity to practice a language, develop new skills, and better understand other cultures.

Here at BenU Mesa there are many cost-effective ways to study abroad ranging from two weeks to one year all around the world. To learn more about the study abroad process and opportunities, please email mesaiss@ben.edu to set up an appointment. BenU Mesa has the following study abroad opportunities:

Faculty Led Programs

These programs are developed and run by faculty at BenU Mesa. Faculty create a course taught at the main campus involving an abroad program that is taken during a break session.

Partnership Exchange Programs

BenU Mesa has developed partnerships with prestigious universities all around the world where our students can study for a semester or academic year; earn credit towards their major, minor, and core requirements while utilizing all of their financial aid and scholarships towards tuition.

International Service Immersion Programs

Every year, International Programs and Services and Campus Ministry run volunteer abroad programs to Bolivia (every June) and the Philippines (every January). These programs provide BenU Mesa students with the opportunity to provide necessary assistance to those living in extreme poverty.

Ways to Prepare

There are a variety of ways to prepare for your once in a lifetime cross-cultural experience before going abroad. It is never too early to start planning your experience. Here are a few way to get involved prior to your study abroad experience:

  • Check with your Academic Adviser about classes to take prior to your trip
  • Get involved with the Intercultural Club or other culture specific clubs on campus
  • Attend International Programs and Services events throughout the year
  • Contact International Programs and Services about any job or internship opportunities
  • Please email mesaiss@ben.edu to set up an appointment. We look forward to assisting you throughout your study abroad process!

"Studying abroad is one of the only ways you'll be able to experience what it's like to really live in another country and to be able to truly understand the people and the culture of the country you're in." - Jake Kennedy
