ARIZONA - In the aftermath of Arizona’s Supreme Court decision requiring undocumented students to pay what is often unaffordable pay out-of-state tuition, Benedictine University Mesa and TheDream.US are announcing a new partnership to ensure continued access to higher education for Arizona DREAMers.
Beginning this fall, Arizona freshman and transfer students, who receive scholarships from TheDream.US, will have the opportunity to attend Benedictine University Mesa. These students had planned to attend Arizona-state universities and community colleges but were left without an affordable college option after the AZ Supreme Court’s ruling. Arizona State University and Grand Canyon University have also joined Benedictine University Mesa to enroll TheDream.US students this fall.
Benedictine University Mesa, a private Catholic university located in downtown Mesa welcomes TheDream.US Scholars and is offering an easy enrollment process –waiving the application fee and hosting open house events for interested students. Benedictine University Mesa will also provide additional funding to TheDream.US Scholars so that the cost of tuition and fees are fully covered. The application period for fall enrollment is open through August 2018.
Campus Executive Officer and Dean Paula Norby, EdD said, “Our partnership with TheDream.US enables us to further our mission by serving Arizona’s highly motivated immigrant students who are eager to gain an education and who will contribute to our vibrant campus community and, ultimately, our nation.”
According to Candy Marshall, President, TheDream.US, “We, alongside our Scholars, grieved the regrettable state Supreme Court ruling denying DREAMers in-state tuition. In-state tuition rates enabled TheDream.US to fund scholarships for more than 150 DREAMers attending our Partner Colleges in Arizona. Now, thanks to the commitment of Benedictine University Mesa and our other local Partner Colleges, we will again be able to help Arizona DREAMers achieve their higher education goals and contribute back to the state’s economic and social prosperity.”
Benedictine University Mesa is a branch campus of its founding university located in Lisle, Illinois. The university was established in 1887 by the monks of St. Procopius Abbey. Today, the university continues to be a thought leader in Catholic higher education and is grounded in Benedictine values.
“At Benedictine University, we believe that you can make a real difference in the world. The level of success our alumni achieve demonstrates how a values-based education can help prepare students to become ethical leaders within their community and at global organizations,” said Benedictine University President Michael S. Brophy, PhD, MFA.
TheDream.US is the nation’s largest college access and success program for DREAMers – undocumented immigrants who came to this country as children. The organization currently has more than 3,000 scholars who are enrolled in or have graduated from over 75 partner colleges in 15 states. To date, the organization has committed more than $103 million in scholarship money for DREAMers.
