History of the Benedictine M.S.M.O.B. Program

The Management and Organizational Behavior Program has its roots
in the Group Work Administration program at George Williams College.
The primary mission of that program was the training of administrators
for the management of community service agencies.
In 1971, the mission of the Department expanded dramatically when
it was refocused to include education in the "human side
of management" and management for business, as well as not-for-profit
organizations.
The emphasis on the human element of management with its origins
in humanism and the applied behavioral sciences is a constant
which characterizes all major facets of the curriculum.
Dr. Peter F. Sorensen, Jr. became director of the program in 1970
and was instrumental in shaping and implementing this new direction.
Dr. Judi Strauss joined the department several years later and
played a central role in its continued expansion, particularly
in the development of the human resources curriculum.
In 1986, the program moved to Benedictine University where it
has flourished under the direction of Dr. Peter F. Sorensen, Jr.
Not only does Benedictine's MOB program boast world-renowned faculty
members, it is also ranked among the top three programs of its
kind by the Organization Development Institute.
