"Leading Teams: Setting the Stage for Great Performances"

J. Richard HackmanJ. Richard Hackman is Edgar Pierce Professor of Social and Organizational Psychology at Harvard University. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from MacMurray College and his doctorate in social psychology from the University of Illinois. He taught at Yale for 20 years and then moved to his present position at Harvard.

Hackman teaches and conducts research on a variety of topics in social and organizational psychology, including team dynamics and performance, leadership effectiveness, and the design of self-managing teams and organizations. He is the author of numerous articles and books, the most recent being “Leading Teams: Setting the Stage for Great Performances” and “Senior Leadership Teams: What It Takes to Make Them Great” (the latter with Ruth Wageman, Debra Nunes and James Burruss). He serves on the U.S. Intelligence Science Board and on the Board of Trustees of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.

Hackman has received the Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award of the American Psychological Association’s division on industrial and organizational psychology, and both the Distinguished Educator Award and the Distinguished Scholar Award of the Academy of Management. In 2004, “Leading Teams” won the Academy of Management’s Terry Award for the most outstanding management book of the year.

For 31 years, the Contemporary Trends in Change Management Lecture Series has brought to campus top national academicians and consultants to address state-of-the-art issues in organizational behavior and organization development. This lecture series is open to the public, but seating is limited so early registration is recommended. MGMT 591 Contemporary Trends in Change Management is a program requirement for all graduate Management and Organizational Behavior (M.O.B.) degree-seeking students. This lecture can be taken for credit or non-credit. Registration is required. Cost is $490.
