The museum provides a unique learning environment that inspires life science education. This summer we have expanded our outreach services to include a Jr. Internship program for local students in grades 6-12. This program provides hands-on learning experiences and interactive demonstrations exemplifying the work and research conducted at a natural history museum. Topics include collections care, the inventory and catalog processes, museum education, and exhibit research.
Session 1: Wednesdays, June 4 - June 25
Session 2: Thursdays, July 3 - July 31

Reflections from our Student Workers:
"Working at the museum has
broadened my knowledge and experience regarding different species and how they
are preserved. As a docent, I was able to give a few tours and guide students
around the museum, conversing with them about the interesting species and
stories that have led up to establish the museum. As a student researcher, I
was surprised by the amount of information that can be learned about the
specimens in the discovery boxes. I learned about some really interesting facts
and features of the specimens that I have been working on over the past year." ~T.N.
"After working at the museum I feel like I benefited a lot by learning about the museum and improving on essential skills that will get me a job in the future. The rainforest discovery box project taught me why the rainforest is so special due to its biodiversity and the number of uses it has in the world; one of the most important uses would be the medicine it provides people. All of these things that I learned are associated with the science field. This job will help me a lot in the future." ~O.Q.
