Matt Wilkin (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook H.S.) has been named as the Northern Athletics Conference "Student-Athlete of the Week" for indoor track and field, it was announced today. The award covered the period from January 15-22, 2007. Wilkin, a junior, started off the 2007 season on a high note by setting a school record in the 35-pound weight throw at the Private College Indoor Championship hosted by Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis. Wilkin's heave of 50'7.5" (15.43m) bested the previous record of 50'2" set by Nathan Palmer in 2004. His effort was good enough for a second place finish in the event. Wilkin also placed 20th out of 44 competitors in the shot put (11.55m). Wilkin is a health science major.
