Benedictine University sophomore volleyball player Kayla Leyden (Elgin, Ill./St. Edward's H.S.) has been named as the Northern Athletics Conference "Student-Athlete of the Week" for games of September 29-October 5, 2008. In three conference matches - during which the Eagles went 2-1 - Leyden averaged 5.09 kills, 5.00 digs, 0.73 blocks and 0.55 aces per set played (11 total) on the week. Leyden made just 12 attack errors in 124 attempts - including zero errors in a sweep over Rockford College - on her way to a .355 attack average. Leyden had kill-digs double-doubles in each match, as well. Among her top numbers on the week were 24 kills and seven blocks versus Maranatha, as well as 25 digs versus Rockford. On the year, Leyden is leading the Eagles in kills per set (3.59) on offense, as well as topping the team in digs (3.90 psp) on defense. She is also averaging 0.36 aces and 0.39 blocks for her 70 sets played in the team’s 21 matches. She has a .214 attack average.
