Liz Cunningham to speak at Benedictine University

September 27, 2018

Ocean Country-Cunningham“I learned that the heart of hope is the passion of rescue.” When Liz Cunningham, author of Ocean Country, spoke these words at a university presentation, her intent was to inspire her listeners to defend the earth’s waters. On October 11, 2018 from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m., Cunningham will share her personal story of hope during a speaking event hosted inside Goodwin Auditorium at Benedictine University, 5700 College Road, Lisle IL.

A former political reporter and a survivor of a near-death experience, Cunningham has dedicated her work to traveling the world and speaking about ocean conservation in an effort to promote good stewards of the seas. In addition to authoring several books and articles about environmental issues facing the planet, she is the cofounder of KurtHahn.org, the website for the founder of Outward Bound.

“My greatest passion is to help others connect with nature and inspire them to participate in forging a sustainable future,” said Cunningham.

Free and open to the public, Cunningham’s Ocean Country is assigned reading material for Benedictine freshmen. In Ocean Country, Cunningham writes that over 50% of the oxygen in every breath we take comes from marine plants and algae. She believes because of climate change and pollution, the health of the seas is critical to the health of the planet.

Cunningham added, “There is no life without water: we all live in ocean country.”
